Interesting use of bubble wrap... I personally use crumpled newspaper balls to create a surface for the Plaster Cloth. Still, thanks for keeping me on track, Cody (no pun intended), and thanks for this series, MR Magazine!

for a flat area you can just lay the strips in place dry then wet them with a sprayer.

I love your video very much, especially the ideas in the second half concerning scale model building and building model railroad scenery. . Something I also found useful for making models of buildings is Elumpa Railroad Buildings Alchemist - if anyone is interested search on google

I see a lot of these plaster products contain gypsum (a carcinogen). Saw a few on Amazon recently. Do this strips pose a health risk over time?

I was told once to use paper mache and then put plaster cloth over it

I'm sorry but are you supposed to use this kind of product on this part of a layout or could you still just use foam board?

I know its a bit late for someone to be replying to this but you would be fine using either. I tend to use foam to for elevated flat areas and plaster cloth for the rest.

Never ever buy anything but rolling stock from a model train store. If you do you just paid 20 times what its worth. Always buy your scenery stuff from a home improvement box store.
