I was born in the early 70's and I remember being gifted (probably Christmas) these train sets. I remember how heavy they were (quality) some of them even made smoke when running.

They were great weren't they, I remember (I too was born in the early 70's) running a Hornby Princess Elizabeth that smoked. All the best Rick.

Hi Brad, hope you're good. Before I got back into railways I used to collect model cars and I still have most of them. I give up buying them apart from the odd one now and again. I might do a vid on them at some point or at least pick a few of my favourites out and put them in our monthly vlog. Things have been very hectic and I haven't had much time for KZfaq, I've added loads to the watch later tab including many of yours. All the best Rick

15:03 the red LMS coach picked out in yellow lining was released by Hornby 1970s/1980s. It was previously sold to accompany the blue 4-2-2 Caledonian single wheeler #123 but in the pre-grouping Caledonian livery of crimson and light beige/grey. #123 can still be seen in the Glasgow Riverside Museum.

Hi Rick and Pauline,, the LMS marone carriage with the yellow striping (14m 30s) are the R.747 LMS Caledonian carriages from Hornby. I got a few of them a fair while ago and pretty much fell in love with them and you know how it is 1 turns into 2 then 4 & now i have picked up around 8 or 9 of them to make a decent rake of them and only bought one close to me here just on the weekend for $30 ausd. They are a lovely aesthetically pleasing to the eye with the white rimmed wheels but the only down fall is the all have the plastic wheels on them. I will end up changing all mine to steel wheels eventually and have to paint the white on them to look the same as the plastic ones. Great video there and thankyou yet again. Cheers from John in Australia

21:50 the reason for selling loco and tender separately was to encourage people spend wisely. In the 1950s and 60s money was short for most people. So if your child wanted the model the parent would buy the loco first perhaps. Then the promise of buying the tender depended on the child doing his/her chores for the next weeks/months. It served 2 purposes - careful with money and teaching the child to be reliable and responsible.

That's a good idea, maybe they could do the same today with phones and Sim cards. That way the tearaways might start behaving. 😂😂

0:09 Looks like the typical 'we sell vintage rolling stock' stand. In Europe this would be filled with early Marklin boxes 0:49 Is that painted or treated with the black oxidizing stuff that is still used on model train wheels today? 12:22 Steam motor shunter with the same engine as their steam trucks 15:04 There seems to be a lot more Rivarossi US stuff hanging around at regular stands in the UJ, usually you find these here on stands that specialize in USA stuff 16:51 Spot the odd one here, looks like there is a Hamo German steamer hiding between the UK locomotives 17:09 Lima often did shop specific limited editions, so you did end up with lots of very short runs for specific numbers 17:53 That one is a typical example of the so called 'Lima Nova' era, where models were updated with bags of parts that you had to mount yourself. You usually have 2variations: Upgraded drivetrain with updated body (separate parts) and Classic drivetrain with updated body, but exceptions to the rule do exist. If the parts are installed, the only way to know which one you get is to check the wheels (drivetrain upgrade = no visible gears on the wheels) as the packaging gives no indication at all 29:21 Looks like a Lima Nova era one with the separate yellow details

Certainly some interesting items on this video especially the Flying Scotsman train set & the unused Scaletrix set. I find it incredible the condition of those items after 50/60 years. Keep up the good work. PS - You will have to create a list of the items you have or the one’s you are after. This would avoid any duplicates or ‘kicking yourself’ after the event for not buying said item.

Would like a heads up on the fair, Where on earth do all the 2nd hand models come from? Any idea? All boxed and looking new, do dealers buy them up from model shops and factories when they close, have people sold them off through the economic crisis or what?. Never seen so many in my life. I live in the Czech Republic where TT and N gauge are the most popular. All my collection was bought from 2nd hand shops and antique dealers, in and around Prague, not particulary cheap, mainly 60s/70s and 80s, most purchased not working, all run fine now. However, prices in UK for prices here look very reasonable, spares are no problem, some of my purchases came with boxes mostly scruffy, but all with the original receipts and dated..........Lovely vid mate

Hi Stephen, a lot comes from people having no room for a layout once they reach a certain age or rather sadly passing away. A lot of people get out of or lose interest once they get older but never get round to selling it on, its surprising what turns up in peoples attics! Its a similar scenario with a lot of diecast cars and action figures. A lot of the traders do have shops and have newer items as well. Thanks for watching Rick

The Sentinel you picked up is a Dapol for Model Rail. I have one but not impressed with it for the money. Plastic body and the wheels slightly off centre not worth £90 more like £40 if that

Hi Rick & Pauline, it seems you enjoyed your selfs again at the toy fair. Is it just me, or perhaps you filming the more mint boxed condition stuff, but it seems that prices have significantly gone up? Of course, go grocery shopping these days and you also will feel a rise in prices. Anyway, seeing you look at the LMS coronation class loco's, I got all 3 versions the blue, maroon and wartime black one, and you will find all 3 models in quite an abondance at fair prices . But when you look for matching coaches, the blue ones are the most available but not so much plenty as other type coaches, although there are new tooled Hornby ones, but ridicules in price, but then again most new stuff is heading there. But also the older ones have their higher end price, and if we talk about the maroon ones they are the worse to get, not retooled yet, they are quite rare and they come at a very steep price. I wonder why the production/availability of rolling stock in this case is so much less than the locomotives? Did a good bargain this week, perhaps the most modern era material in my collection I got, the Hornby the Southern Railways 2-BIL 2041, very nice livery glad I required it for the collection. Keep up enjoying your self and entertaining us, always look out to your posts. Cheers, Danny

Hi Danny, sno we are still looking at all unboxed models as well, sometimes its just down to using the best footage as not all of it turns out as well as we hoped. We had nearly two hours of footage to edit for that video. Today we went to the Bolton Toyfair and there were an awful lot of unboxed items so the next video could be more reflective of that. Nice to hear you got a bargain. All the best Rick
