A bag of potatoes in the frunk should fix it.

Did anyone get a permanent fix for this? My dealership just told me to keep it in LOW mode...but now that rattling is happening in that mode now too!! Happy to hear any solutions. Cheers. LOVE your videos too Bjorn!! Keep it rocking!

I have the same issue, probably slightly less shudder... only happens during low to medium speed acceleration, this is on a 2019 model s dual motor..

I had the same noise problem, it was the Front differential, they replaced it. If you see grease on the inside of your wheel rim that's a good sign that you're differential Lubricant seal field, I wouldn't waste any time getting it repaired. Lee.

Hey Bjorn, this rattling isn´t normal. If your Service Center is not concerned: maybe, but they´re wrong. A friend had the same thing with it´s P85D . Service Center changed front drive, and the car was silent again.

My 2020 Model S LR had the same noise. Tesla replaced both front drive shafts and the acceleration rattle was gone. 11 months same rattle came back. Back to Tesla service and still under last repair warranty new drive shafts and noise is gone. 3rd party developed a drive shaft that supposed to be built to withstand the Tesla acceleration. I guess I should get that one next time.

Got a similar (if not the same) issue on my S90D. Though mine happens even on standard suspension height. SC confirmed it's a known issue. Tesla is working on a permanent solution. No ETA. SC is giving me a temp fix (replacing whatever parts causing the issue) in the meantime. Will see how long this lasts :S. Thanks for this video as it helped a lot for me to understand what was going on, and to explain at the SC.

I've heard the same noise in my Model S 85D when accelerating hard while turning the car (coming out of a side street or driveway), but it's fine when accelerating at full power in a straight line.

You're right they should fix it, but shouldn't high mode only be used in slow speed 'off road' mode? And not for hard acceleration?

Is the squeaking etc avoidable under acceleration with the amount of torque the car is having to handle? How about weighing the front of the car down with something heavy like a ICE? :P

I just had both front half-shafts replaced on my 2020 MX and that fixed the problem. The car drives so smooth now. :)

I have a P90D and it has the same problem. what is the problem, and how do I fix it? Do the front half axles need to be replaced? will this be the correct fix? Please let me know.

Got the same noise with my 2015 P85D especially if car is cold. I don’t think it is concerning and only audible with hard acceleration on a cold motor at low speeds.

Informative. First I have heard of it. I have the D drive but no air suspension. Does it only happen on cars with air suspension?

Bjorn, love your videos BTW. My new '18 Refresh S75D has the same issue. After driving for 20 minutes it becomes harder to replicate this, although it happens at any height. The service center said they're replacing both front half shafts , hopefully it's a permanent fix. Interestingly, you can feel this shudder under your feet if wearing flip flops or barefoot.

Hi, can you please help me. My tesla has almost same noise. It has noise only after 20-30 miles when I push hard acceleration. How can I know it is cv joint fault or clevis mount?

It has two stub axles front ..and two at rear (they hang off either end of the motor kinda.) Maybe place microphone in front left then front right wheel well to see if it's a stub axle connection problem? (Just a wild guess).

Same issue, now having the half shafts replaced. It's a design flaw. I hope they redesign them by now.

Does anyone know if the fix to this is included in the drive train warranty?

this sound is normal if suspension is on high even if they replace the front axle the sound will probably improve a little but it will still make a similar sound, and when going on high speeds you should have it on low or stander and im sure this sound will not happen

I have the same problem in my Model S when accelerating on High or Very High suspension. I thought the wheels were rubbing the fender wells, but you think drive shaft?

probably the cv joints being pulled too far out the cups and causing the rattle/ vibration. maybe a spacer between the motor and joints will solve it or custom drive shafts that can handle the high mode and normal mode.

Happens on my 2020 S built in October/November 2019. I can’t manually adjust the height but it seems to happen when the car is high and I accelerate quickly.

My S has the same noise for the second time. The last change of the driveshaft fixed the problem, but now the sound and vibration are back. I get another driveshaft. Propable the other one or the same - I dob't know.

Have you tried disabling the traction control while doing this ? It may actually be detecting a loss of traction in the front and activating the traction control.

I have exactly the same rattling in my Model X 75D produced in late 2018. For me it's more present at standard height, which of course is more disturbing. They replaced the front drive shaft but the problem is still there. I visited Service centre two weeks ago and then they said that they will do some SW update and replace som other part. I called about it today but now they claim taht there is nothing they can to. What can I do? Is there anyone else having the same problem?

Happens to my October 2016 MX90 as well. Nothing to hear/notice during the first 4'000 km but now it's permanent in normal (and high obviously). It disappear with low and very low settings. With 16'000km on the tacho now, I am waiting the 20'000km service to have it fixed. BTW another topic: what about the Ghosting effect on the windshield of your MX90 - I've learned to "Live with it" but still when it's rainy and dark/night, it's still annoying and getting my eyes tired.

isn't it just the front electronic anti slip getting crazy on your front brakes because it's losing grip? easy to check if your brakes get hot after these rattles

I am a rc model hobbyst and I flown and used alot of rc model electric brushless motors and I've heard completely the same noise when the motor started losing comutation!

I have the same problem in a MS P100D. Happens with the suspension in standard and with acceleration even in Sport not Ludicrous. Going to the service centre tomorrow.

We have been recommended to not make ludicrous accelerations in high. Will Tesla have a fix for that?

Bjorn, this problem, did Tesla fix it? I am interested in Model X new, but if they have this issue, I am not so sure I can live with this type of issue with a car of this caliber. Please comment, I am reading many people have had drive shafts, hangers clevis replaced, but the problem comes back in short amount of time...

I am extremely upset with Tesla service center. I am experiencing the same issue with my 2018 model x making the same noise. They say the sound is normal because the car has a lot of power. Then I ask why my P90D loaner doesn’t make that noise. Then they say it is because it is a signature model. I told them that this is unacceptable for a car that cost 120k.Long story short, they did not try to perform any repair on it and send us away with a clunking noise model x with 4000 miles. Anyone have any recommendations on what to do? Are they official document from Tesla stating that this clunking noise is “normal” and that they will not perform any repair on it?

sounds like cavitation. subs make it when engine resonates naturally at natural freq of sub

this issue could possibly be axle tramp and happens in some powerful vehicles.

How long have you had that car? 9 months? Tesla should take care of that. My X3 has 90k miles with nothing remotely like that.

I just test drove a used Tesla at a dealer and it made this noise. I loved everything else about the car except for this noise. I am a mechanical engineer and noises and vibrations tend to lead to failure over time. I don't want to buy future problems and the noise did not sound pleasant.

56,000 miles in my 2016 S85D and have never heard that.

You should not do hard take off in high or low 4WD mode - those modes are for not getting stuck in mud or snow or getting unstuck - 🤦🏽‍♂️ - plus max speed in most low 4WD mode is 45mph

To me it sounded like barrings on the motor.

The squeaks and rattle's stem from Tesla's terrible interior quality and feel for the price. even my 2009 toyota yaris doesn't rattle or squeak

this is the fix: replace front axles and add updated clevis mount.
