To all SMTers: they are not only for Harrison to enjoy, but for you to gain some knowledge of their inner workings as he gets them rolling full speed ahead. There are a variety of locomotives yet to be resurrected at your local flea markets, antique shops, estate sales, and train hobby shops. Get out there and explore!

I started my model train collection from ebay about 20 years ago. I got into it so much I opened Papatrains on ebay. It's been a great hobby and you have some real treasures there! If you build model houses etc for your layout, turn the shot glass upside down and put a bit of glue in the little concave area of the glass and use a flat toothpick to apply it where needed. Just a little tip. Nice walk down memory lane by the way. I have some of the same models!

I have a box full of tyco trains and track from the 70's and 80's here that was rescued from a recycling bin by a friend of mine.

You've done well with them - mine never come with a bar of chocolate included! Seriously, I get more creative pleasure from rebuilding or restoring a derelict locomotive to full running order than I ever do from owning the latest straight out of the box product. And I love the old Varney, Roundhouse and Mantua steam locos - built like tanks, and run for ever. You've got some good stuff there, lad.

Holy chocolate, SMT man! A Santa Fe passenger train, Santa Fe switcher (to switch passenger train) and matching caboose, Hershey's chocolate switching job with Chocolate Bar (CA) or Candy Bar (US), Midnight Special Baldwin Sharknose (need the matching caboose?), Chessie (Number boards), Silver Streaks number and type of locomotive is a C430... 430-1 was the demonstrator number from ALCO's first, i.e. C430-1, -2, -3. These prototypical locomotives were the First of the Last Four-Axle locomotives ALCO was building, UP F7 Revell (eh?), C & O C-Liner in fine shape (don't you just love how that rear power truck pivots 300 degrees?) and you could run it with your C4301 Chessie (please note complete railing on that unit), Baby Ruth Chug Chug hi-cube boxcar for behind any non-sound steam locomotive you have, Museum Pamphlets, syrup shot glasses, and last but not least... the Gear-wheel-grease-lint cleaner brushes. Wonderful letters and posters... AND, I'm in awe of it all getting to you well packaged. Almost brought a tear to my eyes. John Kamloops, BC

I can’t believe that you’re lucky enough to have a (“Complete Tyco/Mantua Santa Fe F-7A-B w/Passenger train set”) as well as the Hersheys shifter and box car ! The midnight express and the two silver streaks are like icing on the cake !!! 🌊🐺

If I remember correctly the Chassis system you’re holding right now, I do Believe it’s called a UB-36 otherwise nicknamed (“U-boats”) as in like submarines !!! And to be honest I do believe that the chassis system or as they call it “Chesapeake & Ohio” as well as the “Baltimore & Ohio” did have connections with the Florida East Coast to the south end of Miami !!! 🌊🐺

I was given two identical HO Spirit of 1776 Bicentennial Locomotive train sets that were left behind from a student. Apparently they were part of some science project. They both appear to be in brand new condition but no boxes. They were stored in a box in a closet by the teacher. When she retired, she found them and gave them to me. At that time I had an N- scale layout and was heavy into our towns festival of trains at Christmas. I sold my layout in 1995 so my daughter could have her own room. Since then, I have acquired a few HO train sets as well as older N- Scale still in their original boxes. I plan to give them to my Grandson. He also has two RC planes and an RC Boat he is only 3. He does well with a remote on the boat. I got him a GEO tracks train set for $50 that originally cost $300. It's a twin train set with assories. A lady was willing to sell it dirt cheap because it was the last hour of her sale and she just wanted to sell it off.

Yes, you are correct that is (“Tyco/Mantua”) that’s when they were at their best ! Tyco knew a good thing when they saw it and they stuck with it ! I’ve really been impressed with the way that you take those little can three pole motors that run sideways and how you were able to bring them back to life that is really impressive ! There’s is your set of engines to pull your passenger cars ! And just to let you know as far as I know from the state of Florida all the way to State of Texas if a model train has the “Tyco/Mantua stamped on it” might be a C-420 still but it still looks like it’s a UB-36 to me ! And they will fight and bid for it especially if it’s one of the old reliable steam engines for example ! And that is including some diesel locomotives that (“Mantua”) did designed and built ! It was when Tico went to the super crown stale diesel engines that they went to a totally different electric motor and veered away from Mantua ! It’s people like you that help to keep the classics that we kind of grew up with when it came to the world of HO trains ! 🌊🐺

It is pretty cool for those who don't have DCC, but still want sound with their Steam Locos. I've seen an O scale (possibly Lionel) Steam Loco with that same concept in the coal tender at my local Sunday flea market. Same vendor where I picked up the Baby Ruth.

I think that C&O unit is a AHM Fairbanks Morse. My first engine was a AHM NYC Fairbanks Morse unit. Got in 1968. Ran until 1980 when the motor caught fire and that's all she wrote on that! If I had the experience back then, I could have tried to remotor the unit.
