Won't the ramp up be faster when you navigate to a supercharger because of the new battery preconditioning it does when you're approaching a supercharger?

@@ryccoh He said, maybe because he charge the car below 10%. That's why the 100% battery from the starts makes a big difference. 1st trip/stop at 4:15 8% left, If he just 100% fully charged it at the beginning, it will be 10% more and charge rate will be fast, not slow. Wouldn't that initial 9% keep you above the 10% SoC which would've saved you some time because of that slow initial ramp up from the 10%? If that's the case, then the Model X Raven should be even faster.

I think that the loss in time is more than 5 minutes because when you started with 91% , you arrived at 9% to super/fast charger and get an average speed from 9% to 17 % of 80 kW instead of 130 kW. 8% of battery 92 * .08= 7.36 kWh. At 80 kW of power it takes 6 minutes to reach 17 %, but with 130/150 kW will reach this in 3 minutes. for 3 sessions of charging it makes about 9 minutes.

Tor-Inge Johansen On UK roads, about 14 hours I guess. I was basing my reply on a trip from Fort William via West Drayton to near Portsmouth with 5 people in the car. This was 530 miles which took us about 12 hours with plenty of stops due to a bored wife and a not very good traveller in the back seat. I still had 120 miles of fuel in the tank when we got home, according to the trip computer. This Skoda is a fantastic motorway car and if I remember correctly this journey was completed at about 52mpg imperial. I would love to go to Norway and follow Bjørn on one of his road trips!
@TBasianeyes
@TBasianeyes 4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that for these roads you can't do it any faster than 115km/h average because of the speed limits. In a Diesel this is possible without refueling but I guess you'd have to stop at least once to pee so that will take 10min including the detours. I estimate about 9 hours. To make it fair you'd stop to eat like Bjørn so 9:30 would be realistic.

Estimating the remaining 9% to mins overall time trip doesn't makes sense. Because what you did at the beginning led to a domino effect.

Someone with a Raven should do a test starting DC charging below 10% on both supercharger and then Ionity, to figure out if there is something wonky about that Ionity or CCS adapter charging. Charging rate is lower than on old 60/75/90/100's below 10%. Its very strange, and from what I saw in the video, charge rate looked better on the supercharger session?

My record on supercharger with the MX used in the challenge is 144 kW but on ionity it's 138. Not a big difference. The car charged slower than what both me and Bjørn has seen previously but not by much.. And it was how the car behaved this day. Not much to do about it. But yes it does ramp up equally slow on supercharger. It just peaks a bit higher. Sometimes it ramps at 12%, sometimes at 15%, or in my case with the 144 kW record it didn't ramp up until 17-18%.

If you watched another video that Bijorn shot of a test he did with the Mercedes EQC, he concluded that the EQC is more efficient than e-tron and i-pace thus has better range. Not sure how these cars compare in ride handling, comfort and charging speed. In previous videos, e-tron can charge fast. That is a big plus. The problem is it's consumption is high. Also, e-tron has some other bugs that need to be fixed. Also, I do not know yet what the price on the EQC is yet compared to the e-tron. To me, fast charging availability is a big deal when traveling on long road trips.

@@johnchartrand5910 Its only minutes to and from, it does not matter at all in the long run, when you don't have a race, actually its completely the other way around. Tesla is just a matter of entering your destination, it will tell you where to stop for charge, and for how long, you can see how many available chargers there are before you arrive, it will heat your battery for optimal charging speed if its cold, there is no fiddling around with apps or RFID chips, just push the button on the handle, it will open the charge port for you, and you can plug in. You will get a push message on your phone telling you when there is five minute left of charging and then again when its ready to leave for the next destination. Its lightyears ahead of e-tron and EQC and other cars with CCS >50kW on a long trip, which also has A LOT less chargers to choose from. I have both a long range >50kW CCS car and a Model X, and the planning part is not even a competition, its a walkover for Tesla. I can just get in the car and go, whilst in the CCS car I have to do my homework, I have to figure out somewhere around where I have to charge, and figure out if its from an operator that I already have an account and RFID or app from, or if I have to order some sort of card or other crap.
