When Asha caused people to tire of Disney's "quirky heroines", I was a little saddened because I tend to relate to the "upbeat optimistic goofballs with hidden layers" the most. So I made a rather long Twitter thread stating reasons why I still think this template is still going strong on TV. One reason I didn't point that this compilation reminded me of is that while the humor of Disney films that came out after 2016 (except for Encanto) are just quirky, you could argue the humor in most of these shows is COMPLETELY UNHINGED, making it more inventive, risky, and unpredictable. I wou And it's usually used to enhance the story, while the humor in their movies tend to disrupt it. Same for the non-Disney films coming out that can still be considered dramedies, but people say are beating Disney.
