That Guy is ok Some states had legalized gay marriages while some gay couples still had marriage ceremonies whether they were legal or not. I think the joke was Lily was so supposed to be a homophobe eating a Chik Fila sandwich.

It's so weird how the actors are calling themselves by their actual names. Like Ariel and Sarah Hyland (Who play Alex Winter and Haley respectively) call Ty Burrell by his actual name instead of "Dad" or Phil. I'm just so used to having them call each other by their show names.

As a Filipino, it's really weird for me because 'Ty' sounds like 'Tay' (pronounced as 'tie') which is like a shortcut of 'Tatay', the Filipino word for 'father'.

For those who don't know...the first joke about, "I know it's not a table read because all of you showed up!" is a reference to the cast of 6 adults all banding together (like they did on Friends) to get a big pay increase and all make the same pay rate after the show was a hit. To make the point that they were unified, they all called in "sick" to a new episode table read and the show had to shut down for a week until they all got new big pay hikes and came back to work. 🤣

@@cm-fn5sh No. The start of the fourth season all the adult cast members wanted to get big pay raises. Eric Stonestreet had won 2 Emmys by then and was making 1/7th what Ed O'Neill was being paid (since Ed was a known TV star and Eric unknown at the show's beginning.) Once Ed joined the other 5 in solidarity the producers and network had no choice but to give salary parity. They all sat out the first table read for Season 4, Episode 1. Only the kids showed up. Everyone at the Emmy Awards of course would have known this, which is why they laugh so hard. It's a very "insider" joke. Why would the 6 leads of a hit comedy be irresponsible? Trust me, this is the "joke."

tbh i also thought it was just her poking at them being lazy and irresponsible. it reminded me of a “victorious” thing where the cast was filming each other at a table read and waiting for victoria, who everyone poked fun at for being late. with that idea in mind, i found it funny. with what you’re saying as context doesn’t make it as funny imo bc it’s kinda sad lol but that’s still cool to know!

This did happen, but the joke is is that actors don't show up to table reads, while the kids do. Everyone at the Emmy would laugh because this happens all the time in TV, the table read is important but not as important as actual blocking rehearsal or filming, so if you had to miss work, you're missing the table read. The writers would not write a joke for a national awards ceremony about how they didn't pay their actors fairly.
