The more I see Eric's interviews, the more I appreciate his acting. Eric is so apparently straight but its amazing how easily and subtly he gets into characters as Cam in the show. Good job.

Id say he's the quintessential metrosexual 'a heterosexual urban man who enjoys shopping, fashion, and similar interests traditionally associated with women or homosexual men." All of these apply to Barney. Urbanite (hates the countryside), loves his suits and fashion sense, often gets manicures and stuff like that.

I personally have a gay friend who came out after seeing this show. He realized his parents loved this show, and new if they could be comfortable with these characters, they'd be willing to accept their own son. For the first time, the family actually has a loving healthy relationship. My friend has been with his boyfriend for 3 years now and it's because of the accepting message of this show that the entire family is bonded.

I'm a little ashamed to say that I used to be homophobic. I thought it was wrong and unnatural. But Modern Family, among other things, really shed light on my ignorance for me and I am now in complete support of equal rights for the LGBT community. Not seeking praise for simply discontinuing my stupidity. I just wanted to share that people with ignorant and intolerant perspectives (Myself and others) can change.

billy jack Funny thing is, I'm not even American. And FYI, they do show genuine affection between the two. Just because it isn't sexual doesn't mean it isn't affectionate. And just to introduce a gay couple as one of the main leads in a show on a big channel like ABC (which is seen by millions) does require guts coz not everyone accepts it. And people literally changing their opinions about being gay is not what common public gay parents can achieve. So ya, Modern Family did make one hell of a statement.

Before I looked up the actors, I thought Cam was gay in real life and Mitchell was the straight one. They are brilliant actors and brilliant men. If ever there was to be a spin off show, I hope Cam and Mitchell get it.

Before i saw the show I planned forcing myself into a marriege with a woman, and than i saw this show and Mitchell who I can identify with( hes my favourite). And found out that its not impossible to come out. And I want to have a great husband later and then a beatiful child. So this show actually changed my life. Thank you writers ,Jesse and other importent people in making this fantastic show.

The show perpetuates stereotypes in order to subvert sterotypes. If you glance at the characters majority of them seem to adhere to stereotypes but if you know the show it also subverts stereotypes and challenges how you would expect the characters to behave in many scenarios. If the characters in the show didn't adhere to stereotypes the effect would not be the same.

There’s a little bit of truth to a lot of stereotypes. Gay guys, for example, are already looked at as “weird”, they’re typically more comfortable being feminine than straight guys because of it. There’s no pressure to conform because they already don’t conform.

What I love about Mitch and Cam's portrayal on the show is that it helped a lot of people overcome their homophobic thoughts and realise than gay love is no different that straight love and it's actually beautiful and nothing to be afraid of. Of course it doesn't get rid of homophobic human beings but I'm glad that it changed a lot of people's perspective.

I love how this show explores family values so well. In every episode, they remind us that we're all human and that our differences aren't weaknesses in others we should target, but signs of how much we can all learn from each other.

my youngest brother is gay and at the time he came out i had alrdy watched 4 seasons of modern familty and im pretty sure it helped me to accept the situation right away, it came as a big suprise but never felt weird.

I disagree. Mitch and Cam are first time parents. That's what the show is portraying. The stumbles and hilarity of watching first time parents trying to navigate that landmine. Straight or gay, that is never easy. And they all mess up. That's the funny part. But they love their kids. And that's all that matters.

I heard about Modern Family at a time when I was punishing myself for being bisexual and trying to hide it from the people around me, because I thought I was wrong and broken and disgusting. But then the trailer had Cam playing Circle of Life holding Lily, and Mitch looking absolutely done with him, and I laughed so much. Eventually I felt better about myself. I'm still a screw-up, but it's not because of that lol

This is such a cute and uplifting thing to hear. On the one hand, it's sad that such a tv show is apparently "needed" to open the minds if bigoted people. But on the other hand, it shows that much (or at least some) of it isn't homophobia per se, but rather fear of the unfamiliar and strange.

I was very surprised when I would come home and find out that my Dad DVR'd this show-- I always figured he would be a little too "old school" to enjoy the show-- but he loved it, and all the characters.. so I think this show did a lot to show how tolerant people actually are these days.. people are always so quick to judge people for not liking a show because of certain progressive elements..but this show is proof, if the writing and acting is good-- people will accept and celebrate it.

To Eric's point: just because someone talks with a southern accent doesn't mean they are Westboro types that oppose same sex marriage. I'm from the South and I lean to the left, but can't fully embrace the Democratic Party, because the liberals I'm surrounded by all day discriminate against me. I'm assumed to be a bigoted moron because I'm from Texas. It amazes me that my fellow UC-Berkeley students can't see the hypocrisy in that while they go on and on about gay marriage. Like dude, I agree with you, you don't need to get defensive and go on a rant just because I say I'm from Texas.
