I'm very excited to try Break Out in goblins. You usually only play at most 4 non-creatures, and even just 6 deep to put a goblin into your hand is fine. But if you can get a snoop or a battle-cry and give it haste. Now you're cooking with gas.

Instead of bloom you could go with Faeburrow Elder which is one more white mana but you also get a beater that can also cast other stuff

Bloodghast + insidious roots also works. It just fits into your Asmo decks nicely with some extra build arounds

Thanks to Crime Novelist and what I picked up years ago I'm having the pleasure of finding out that if you're just one nobody guy, you can in fact not sell on TCGplayer by having the lowest price on it. Personally I'm loving the Leyline because Coalition Victory is actually a decent alternate win con in Legacy decks that run it and Bloom Tender. Not that a combo that fragile is good but it can T2.

Looking forward to a lot of these brews, but I think Stoneblade with Cryptic Coat has me most excited. I'd be surprised if you don't want at least one SoFaF though - the ability to hold up mana seems really good.

Other than the domain cards in the current domain zoo deck, below are the effects of the cards that I think are notably good with Leyline of the Guildpact in play. Bloom Tender - Taps for 5c mana Faeburrow Elder - 5/5 and taps for 5c mana Knight of New Alara - Other creatures you control get +5/+5 Sisay, Weatherlight Captain - 7/7 if you control another legendary permanent Might of the Nephilim - Target creature gets +10/+10 until end of turn Civic Saber - Equipped creature gets +5/+0 Blessing of the Nephilim - Enchanted creature gets +5/+5

Case of the Ransacked Lab looks incredible in Gifts Storm. It is an enchantment which is more resilient than a creature. Also, if your opponent manages to stop you from comboing off, it will solve giving you an incredible second wave.

I really like Drag the Canal, just because its floor is so reasonable. I feel like so many cards like this end up being pretty bad because they make you jump through the hoop before giving you basically *any* value. This, on the other hand, is *always* a two mana 2/2 with flash, which, while not a good enough card for modern on its own, at least plays to the board. Like, a certain portion of the time you'll end up casting it to eat an attacking Bowmaster or trade with a Ragavan or whatever and that's not too bad when that's the fail case.

Leyline of the Guildpact is such a great enabler for a 5-color Happily Ever After. With domain already popular and turn 0 leyline and triomes available, I want to try building a domain control decks appear that uses those cards together

Technically you could already tutor a land into play for 3, untapped even with Wargate.

Really liking the pushed uncommons in this set.

The fact breakout puts a creature in hand is nice and it can grab some stuff like Asmo which is pretty cool. Goblins is the only deck I could see maybe wanting to use it, but the fact in an asmo deck it can put asmo into play or grab a missing ovalchase daredevil is kinda cool. The black red aggro asmo decks are doing okay and have the prerequisite density so maybe a jund variant could exist. Only issue is your probably cutting bolt or galvanic blast for this and losing that reach is probably worse than adding this card.

About Break Out, I thought it is kind of 8-whak/convoke/storm card. Casting this to chain Burning-tree/Herbalists/Bushwacker > Thrasta/Imperiosaur seems Nice. Also if you hit only thrasta like pool you can pick it to your hand. Not sure if it will be good enought but fun for sure :)

finally someone who is high on the surveil land cycle, seems like a super good one of in alot of decks.

Im gonna try breakout in an asmo combo deck I have. I have disliked finale of devestation for a while in asmorano decks because its just copy 5-8 of asmorano. I see breakout as a way to dig 6 deeper for asmorano. Additionally when I already have an asmorano in play, breakout digs for ovalchase daredevil and steelseekers unlike finale of devestation. Then I have some random other hits like DRC (which together with steelseeker also improves future breakouts consistency). Imo its superior to finale of devastation unless you are able to do x=10.

What i really like about the split cards is the art is a continuation of either side.

i actually think messing with the hardened scales manabase to have UR be accessible won't be too bad- scales can just run a more traditional fetchland manabase while cutting the weird cards like grove of the burnwillows lol, you might have to sacrifice some number of inkmoths or something but if jund saga can do it scales can, especially since you have so many colorless cards that occasionally not finding a color is fine

Break out feels like its perfect home is in devoted druid, i dont think it fully cuts out eldamri's call but i think it is for sure worth testing. Being able to turn 2 oops i win. Turn Green white land plus dork, turn 2 this hitting druid, Haste druid taps for 2 mana plus the 1 remaining from land for turn. Vizer of remedies cast from hand or potentially a eldrich evolution into vizer for combo. Seems pretty powerful in druid as an alternate tutor that gives haste i think the list playing the equipment+ SFM package would really benefit from this card, being able to "wiff" on druid but still hit a stone forge mystic tutor for a khaldra and put it into play the same turn for only 4 mana? I've also done some mental brewing of druid as a "5c" deck with leyline binding and kavu, taking druid back to the midrange game plan that oops i win but i dont think thats good enough at the current moment. Also brewed a bunch of lists with Cauldron and devoted druid combo but i feel like lower creature count for cauldron and this card kinda Non-Bo. I would love to hear your thoughts on this in devoted druid, the deck already frequently plays 26+ creature counts. This card feels like a cheaper sorcery speed collected company with upside, not being forced to put the card into play if you hit a walking ballista it goes to hand instead of dying. Or if you hit a higher cmc creature that cannot ETB it just goes to hand.

Grinding station is the best sac outlet for crime novelist. You can loop and mill the opponent out.

Crime novelist turns chromatic star and sphere into manamorphoses also deadly dispute becomes very powerful making 2 mana with treasure token and one mana for sacrifice cost then draw 2 cards i see a crime novelist storm deck being pretty do able winning with grapeshot or a fling effect sacrificing your bigass goblin

Reenact the Crime also looks spicy in mill as a sideboard card, either you play vs decks with bombs or deck with emrakuls in their SB

Also really hyped for insidious roots. A bit more for pioneer than for modern, but I'll try it a bunch.

I was into cryptic cloak as a standard and pioneer powerlevel level card but I'm now more convinced and/or delusional for modern. it's pretty easy to forget how good ward 2 is, having a recursive threat that your opponent needs to trade 3 mana with against counter spell colors adds up to alot of tempo. it also isnt cleanly answered with leyline binding, prismatic ending or solitude like most recursive threats. it's really hard to play against, the big question is just is it fast enough that your opponent can't go over the top of it.

Cryptic Coat slaps. Unlike cards like the Swords, Jitte [Legacy], Batterskull, or Kaldra, it's already a two-for-1 that immediately effects the board on cast. 5 mana make a 2/2 ward 2 in the end game will win top deck wars, and it naturally making a difficult to interact with/conditionally recursive 3/2 unblockable is good pressure. On top of that, the activated ability on the card being only two mana makes it pretty annoying to interact with the actual equipment outside of Karn [which it just murders on spot if they minus into it, though Cryptic Coat is probably a pretty spicy card for a Karn board] or Pithing Needle [which doesn't actually deal with the creature, just means you only get the one]. Cryptic Coat is a card that's probably pretty good in Legacy Stoneblade too [tutorable card to pitch to Force that also generates value and doesn't care about Bowmasters].

Drag the Canal with Grief/Subtlety/Solitude Evoke seems nice

Very surprised to not see Proft's Eidetic Memory. I feel almost completely sure it will be a multiformat all star in Modern, Standard and Pioneer at least. The card replaces itself and will give so many +1/+1 counters for the rest of the game. Does very much for a very little cost, definitely the card I predict to be the best in the set.

I'm not sure how great it would be but I could see Domain Zoo trying to play Break Out, since they have a good density of 2 mana creatures and would rather haste them on turn 2 than not. Maybe?

no one is talking about some of these cards capabilities in golgari yawgmoth?, with all of those leaves the graveyard abilities its hard to not think about yawgmoth

So Hide in Plain Sight is definitely worse at cheating an Emrakul or whatever into play than Reenact the Crime, but it also sidesteps every single piece of graveyard hate except for (I believe) Grafdiggers Cage and Containment Priest, which I feel is something that could be relevant, as with Modern lacking Legacy staples like Show and Tell and Sneak Attack, cheating dumb things into play almost always involves some amount of routing through your graveyard.

I think one area you might be overlooking with the breakout card is five color domain. Possibly even playing it more like a suicide version with death's shadow. Nashoba brawler, territorial kavu, and scourge of the sky clave/ death Shadow could be very scary cards to hit off of this and give haste

You didn't even touch on the interaction between Insidious Roots and Dredge, my dude. As per 121.2, all dredges happen one at a time, thus Cathartic Reunion dredging 3 times is a minimum of 3 triggers (see: Narcomoeba, Amalgam, etc). Ox of Agonas is a minimum of 5 because the Escape itself is a creature leaving the bin, then the Ox leaves, then you Dredge 3 times, then there's Narcomoebas etc on top of that. Unless my understanding of how the rules work here is wrong, Dredge is completely nuts with this card.

Really enjoy these videos! However, I totally disagree on Break Out. Saying that it will see 0 play is a very big statement and the card is far from unplayable imo. There are plenty of decks that you can build that have 24 creatures or so. And even if you dig for a Daredevil in, say, an Asmo shell, it's not the worst thing to ever happen, since that is a card that Food desperately needs in hand in order to function properly.

Your pop size for Break out is too high. If you cast this on 2, OTP, it’d be 52 (+1 for each mulligan)

for pioneer goblins - while toxin analysis is sick, the life loss off touch of moonglove is not something to ignore, especially in a deck that has so many ways of flinging damage directly at face
