This is such a fantastic conversation honestly. Goggins is notorious for very rarely doing this shit and I don't think I've ever seen him be so animated in telling a funny story, him and Chris seem to genuinely get on very well and I'm sure Chris takes that as a very high honour.

I really dig what he has to say about discipline and grit. And also, when he speaks about people who can't enjoy their lives now because of the moment they failed, I don't think that is a rule. A lot of these people are trapped by and beholden to a ruthless ego, and I don't think the only solution is to never fail. Realizing that that voice is not always telling the truth is huge.
@Mikey-vy5ee

I don’t think he’s referring to the failure you’re thinking of. He’s talking more about when you quit. The people who throw in the towel too early on life. Those are the moments where you are filled with regret. He even mentions how he looks at failure as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd attempt because he’s done it so many times in his life.
@Deelitee
@Deelitee Жыл бұрын
@@Mikey-vy5ee meaning… he didn’t *really* quit. He didn’t throw in the towel- but the other guys he mentioned did?? Right? He had failed attempts which is different from quitting. Practice makes progress sorta thing? And also… Progress not Perfection is what keeps you motivated and not so discouraged you want to surrender.

I've done this approach before when I was going through the last month of pregnancy and during labour. To calm your brain down by controlling your emotions...your mental/thoughts..and focus on the outcome. NOT easy but it really does help to push through whatever pain you are going through. The alternative? You allow your brain/thoughts to drive you crazy in the moment and you lose. So you choose 🤷

In that moment of struggle or panic on your way to fulfill your mission, calm down, find a moment of stillness to put your logical, thinking brain back into the driver's seat of your body. From here, think rationally about your actions and consequences. Reach into your mental "cookie jar" if you have to (think about times you've gone through similar hardships and how you're more than capable of finishing this task). Remind yourself that _you_ put yourself here. Finish the mission.

@@RainbowBandanaabsolutely. for sure. And it takes self awareness to realize that which must be done. It also takes skillful action and dedication towards longterm behavior repatterning. Goggins is unique (in my opinion) because he seems to have done both of these things through his own process and lived experience. It's a blueprint and model that is available to us.

Does anyone think that Goggins is a bit of a psychopath? I don’t mean that in a negative context either, but there must be something there that makes him put himself through so much suffering. It’s almost like a self harm of some sorts? Is there something diagnosable there? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Goggins and I’m trying to sort my shit out using some of his techniques - I just thought it would be interesting to discuss

It's likely his coping mechanism for various forms of trauma he's been through. Sort of like an extreme form of therapy. Reminds me of how Wim Hof became the Ice Man after losing his wife.

I've heard from somewhere that if you were to assess the leaders of the most successful businesses right now, you'd have a very high rate of psychopathy diagnoses. A basic Google search puts it at 4% of their population compared to 1% of the general population. It's quite possible Goggins IS a psychopath, but even if he is, he's someone who's learnt to direct it in a way that is good for himself and others.

Goggins doesn't seems unstable or violent so probably not psycopath. He is able to communicate his feelings quite well and has great love for his mother and gratitude for life.

People that go through special forces selection all over the world successfully (certainly in the British/American model) tend to be people that don’t really have a strong inclination to project themselves into the future and worrying about what might happen. They live in the moment and deal with it as dispassionately as possible. Tbh, Goggins talking about rationalisation tools and bending his mind away from negative thoughts probably makes him a more reflective/emotional person than the average SF soldier, and makes him even more of a beast imo. That level of active self control is another level.
