A few years back i was stuck in my home town in GA, ended up losing where I was staying, the girl I was seeing and my job in the span of two days. Ended up getting a pack on craigslist and went off to hitchhike to CO. Had a friend drop me off on the side of the road out in the boonies and I started my long walk. After the first bend this song came on my head phones and I remember just crying my eyes out, feeling the weight of those past years slide off of me and all the potential of a new adventure in front of me. This song always hits me hard.

I was a cashier at Zupan's on Belmont in 2013-14 and always loved when Isaac Brock came through my grocery line despite me losing the ability to speak out of sheer star struckness in the presence of his majestic artist self. I wish I woulda tried to be his friend as I saw him and had the chance to speak to him often, the most that came out was that I loved his music. I always thought he was the hottest creature on earth and his music has saved me many a times out of the depths of darkness. Thank you Isaac and Modest Mouse, you rules the roast forever.

@thatkitchenman
@thatkitchenman Ай бұрын
@@johnwhite1321 that's because the "Hot 100" and "Top 50" are based on mostly hip hop and pop. Not punk rock, pop punk, rock, or metal. Your opinion is invalid because unless you're already famous or part of the agenda, you'll never make a list like that in America. Wheatus was SUPER famous in other countries because Americans couldn't get over the fact they mentioned a "gun in school", but 'Pumped Up Kicks' literally talks about shooting other kids and that made it on the Top 100. The comments on this video are pretty ironic, people remembering their past, how they originally found this song. About better times, but this song is actually about moving on after bad things and how we all just move on after all bad things. "Floating on." We all have our troubles, but we will all float on okay, don't you worry. Even if things end up a bit heavy, we will all float on. At least that's how I interpret it.
@DaughtersofOrion
@DaughtersofOrion 4 жыл бұрын
Music Chanimal I take it sarcastically now. I used to interpret it as not having a worry. Now I interpret it as a warning to those pursuing pleasure and escapism. The animal farm and Orwellian theme of the video give me this vibe. The fact that the animals are being led to slaughter while happily matching has this forbidding undertone. I’m not in any way negating your interpretation. I actually came down here to bounce this theory off someone else and you seemed like an open mind to do that with. Granted, I could easily be biased because of my past and my own mess-ups in life. I just wanted to share that idea though. Thanks for reading. :)

@@DaughtersofOrion That sounds like a pretty good interpretation as well! I didn't expect any actually well-thought out comments to respond to anything I said, let alone a popular song. I haven't been around very much but I understand where you come from, the fact the song is about moving on while the animals slaughtered have nowhere to move onto makes sense in my mind as well. I didn't think about it that way until you brought it up, thanks! It's rare getting a reply that isn't just a blind agreement or disagreement, so thanks!

The beginning is a stage, symbolic for life being one large play. The sheep are symbolic for not only what is happening consistently in the world (hu-men killing animals) but also represents us as humanity. We are the sheep being fed to the wolves. Although there is nothing wrong with the sheep, that is just the scenario they have been placed under or over (to overstand what is going on rather than understand) They are singing or mouthing we'll all float on signifying their reassurance, then the man takes the sheep and kills them. However we will all float on and everything will be ok. In a way the sheep do not have free will to decide when they die or what happens to them, they are being decided on by the man however it's ironic because the man also does not choose and is part of the system which will eventually do the same to him. It's only sad or bad if you look at it as that way. You could also see it as a beautiful thing because being alive only means you have time to experience. When you die everything comes full circle and there is no time to be had or wasted. Everyone is the way they always were. And that's why we will all float on alright. We will all make it to the end of the tunnel and it's a beautiful thing if you allow yourself to experience it in that way.

The most overplayed song that does not get old. We all need to float on sometimes. If you watched this depressed, something in the sheep waiting for slaughter makes you feel warm inside. It can be worse, but you cannot control some outcomes so why fret. Focus on what you can control and enjoy the ride while you can, and let love grow as you do it.

I only know about this song because I had a gay friend in NY who sent me a bunch of CDs once and this album (which is fantastic by the way) was one of them. This song takes me back. Detroit,Michigan how the hell you holding up? God has blessed me traveling to 36 states and its fucking crazy how you hear a song and it triggers memories from far long gone days. Reminds me that I'm getting older and wiser. Everyone please take your time and stop for a minute and make a real effort to look,listen and be amazed at what you see and hear when you pay attention to shit instead of hurry hurry.. Be blessed and thank you God.

Remember driving around for hours and hours in the indiana countryside with my first love to this song. I remember how in love we were and how beautiful that was. Being 16 and having no where to be and nothing to be worried about. The endless sea of grass. I'd just have my hand on her thigh while we drove forever. Those are some of the moments I cherish most in this life. We dated for 2 years and she found someone else. Spent a lot of time hating her for that. I'm 21 now and I'm just starting to feel a little better about it. I couldn't listen to this song for so long, and now I'm going through some serious issues with my current partner. This song really reminds me of the impermanence of life. Those fleeting, beautiful moments that sometimes get overshadowed by the inevitable periods of pain and suffering. It's taken me a long time to come to realize my life is not just one long, cruel joke. Those moments have value. Even if they don't always last. I miss being 16 in that endless sea of grass. It'll be okay though, anyway.

I’ve been struggling with emotional pain for the past couple months and doing things to myself that nobody should do. Yesterday my girlfriend called me and told me that one of my best friends died. He killed himself. This was one of our favorite songs, and he introduced it to me. I wish he had listened to the message but it feels good to hear it again and I think that what he did made me realize that I need help. If you read this, which probably nobody will, thanks for your time, have a great day, if you feel that feeling please tell someone, and God bless you.

Such a shame that U2’s Vertigo got the grammy instead of this one. This song is just a masterpiece. Never knew much about this band growing up. Just remember an ad for the CD on tv with the tagline “Good news for people who like bad news.” Just recently thought to give them a listen. It has such an early 2000s feel that’s nostalgic This song has been helping me a couple of days this week. Burnout sucks.

This song was a beacon of light for me through so many years of depression. Through music, understanding psychology, the practice of meditation, and daily exercise I have finally begun to defeat my depression. Thank you too all of the music like this that kept me fighting till I found the tools to combat the hell of ones mind. Keep fighting for a better tomorrow it is there you have to seize it take control yourself no one can do it for you. It isn't easy and it is an every day moment to moment fight but it is worth it and can be done. Float on my friends.

I love how this song isn't just some happy song, and the video even shows that off with the unnerving energy. This song isn't a reassurance that things will get better; it's a desperate plea for things to get better, almost to the point of delusion, and I love it. It's not about knowing things will get better; it's about hoping things get better, and that regardless of what happens everyone will make it to the end. It's almost so morbid that it's comforting, and it's why I absolutely adore this song.

one of the main delusions in life is that it will never end, all the popular western religions are built around shoring up the delusion that you're somehow going to not stop existing when you die. i think the ego always wants to drift into this fantasy, but you can break through into beautiful moments of pure joy meditating on the fact that in time we will all lose everything we love, get sick, and die. there is no point being upset when these moments are all we ever have

It can also mean that bad stuff will happen and things won't necessarily get better but we'll still be okay despite it a.k.a. it's not the end of the world

Not necessarily a delusion. When you are depressed you always assume that things will never ever get better, even though you know for a fact that tragedies don’t last for ever and one manages to either accept or just forget and keep moving on, so it’s a nice reminder to have modest mouse telling us life does get better. I would say it’s a fact that people usually assume tragedies will last longer than what they actually end up lasting. So it’s good to remind yourself that after some time you’ll float on alright, even though we know we might fall again It is also beneficial to delude yourself and pretend that life always will get better after a tragedies since it gives you strength to fight and move on.

If only it were so easy. For me this song brings such bittersweet memories that it can induce a major depressive episode. I was choking back tears. Not sure why I thought I could handle it, but it’s been so long since I heard it I definitely didn’t think I’d feel this way either.
