We've had both those issues in our 390 Grande. Kampa actually sell specific items to solve both problems. There are spacer packs for additional tension and veranda poles which fit between beams in special cups.

We have owned our Kampa Air Ace 400 for over 2 years, when we first used we had the issues with pooling, at the Caravan show we hunted out the Kampa rep to discuss issues with him. He said the biggest problem they have is owners not putting enough air in and said it should be between 9 and 11 psi, since then we have always inflated to 10 psi and have never had pooling with or without the pads, you will notice 10 psi makes the poles more ridged and harder. The next tip he gave us was when the ground is not flat to pack behind the poles as in the video with pads, these are actually an accessory sold by Kampa but obviously making your own would be cheaper. Another tip (especially if you have a large awning) is to buy the Kampa electric pump, plug in, turn on, start pegging rear corners out whilst pump is going, pull awning up when half inflated, get on with something else whilst pump finishes of, pump cuts out at set pressure ie 10 psi and you have an inflated awning to the perfect pressure ever time. As I said in our experience biggest cause of pooling is under inflated poles. Hope this helps too.

We are staying in North Devon and experienced exactly the same water pooling in our Kampa Motor Rally Air Pro and ended up using the corner poles to push up the roof overnight. Yesterday I went to Tamar Caravans and bought the packing pads (£7). We slightly deflated the air awning to easily slip 2 pads behind each air beam and reinflated. Today we are sitting in a storm with gusty winds and heavy rain and NO POOLING!!!! Thank you so much for your top tip....without having seen your advice we probably would have got rid of the awning when we got home. Thanks again for sharing these tips. Happy Caravanning! Im a lowly tenter but we just used our airbeam for the first time on the cliffs near Tintagel and got hit by 2 yellow storms. The only problems we had was the folding of the front beam , we used a pole with a pad on it at an angle to the ground as a temporary fix but I see the way you show could work better ..I will give it a go ,thanks

Biggest tip I can give for Kampa awnings, is be very careful in hot weather and do not inflate to the pressure Kampa state. I had two air beams fail when the outer reinforced sleeve failed causing the bladder to push out. Luckily we heard the sleeves rip and where able to isolate and let the air out of the affected poles. Earlier in the year however, the caravan next to us was not so lucky. Theirs failed when an air beam burst ripping the awning will such a bang that at first many people thought it was a gas explosion. His was inflated to 10 psi.

Hi Keith and Michelle, having just watched your video on adaptations to your awning, I like the idea of the broom handles but I would use them to support my front panels when I open them just half way. They are usually left hanging putting stress on the zips so the broom handles would prevent this. My awning is a Vango Balletto so may have different opening options to yours but other Vango uses may also find it useful. Love your vlogs, happy caravanning, Helen from Somerset.

We had the same problem with water, cured it last time we were away with Kampa Packing squares and pulling out the front of the awning giving a greater slope to the roof.

Thanks for the welcome..illness crept up and put me out of action for the last 6 months 🤔and our caravan, awning and all our belongings have been left un cared for… we finally got the van home after that long under trees it looked awful but Lisa worked her magic and it’s looking better. But now we have a damp awning that looks like it’s been in a swamp…. Have you any ideas of how to try and save our awning it’s very similar to yours and looked amazing when we left it. I understand what your saying is how the wind 'bends' the end poles that distort the line of the zip towards the ground. We've had this problem on the last two occasions and yes after the first incident, partially deflated so as two realign the zip. Not caused by wind but perhaps due to the the misalignment of the Valcro fixing on both end poles at their bases immediately affixed to the same Valcro on the transverse front ground section. Will see if we have solved this problem when next erecting our Kampa Air Rally Pro 33OXL. Regards.

My mate has cut rainwater downpipe to go between the windows to stop the awning from bending with a bit of old carpet on the ends . It’s much stronger than a broom handle.

Great tips however one of my many awnings is a Kampa Pro Air Awning which also annoyingly pools with water when it rains, used it many times and erected perfectly each time with the Kampa pads between the caravan and air beam and guess what?...., it still pools. I’ve tried many things to solve the problem even spoken to Kampa and applied their suggestions and still no joy. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a design issue with the roof brace beams because when you look at the Vango range you have to manually insert the beams where Kampa have these beams stitched into the fabric and this is the reason the water gathers by the stitching rather than just rolling off in the case of a separate support brace. I also have an Isabella awning and agree with previous comments, perfect quality and design and can’t beat them!

Great tip re the pooling of water, but with the poles, i wouldnt advise to do that, as in very windy weather it is the flexibilty and movement of the beams that prevent damage.

Labradors on Tour : I sent an email to Keith & Michelle at the weekend but I might as well repeat the information here. The feet/pads are just the same suckers/pads as are available at caravan accessory shops, marketed as awning pole suckers/pads. I have seen them at 3 of the 4 caravan dealerships near to me: Leisureworld in Catterick (aka Catterick Caravans), Ropers at Catterick and Teesside Caravans (Thornaby). I haven’t specifically looked at Kimberley Caravans at Burtree Gate, Darlington, but I’d be surprised if they don’t sell them also. I seem to remember they were something like £1.99 each pad at one of those places I mentioned and £2.99 at another, or thereabouts. The difference wouldn’t be worth the petrol money to go elsewhere. I suspect I got a couple at Teesside Caravans to see if they worked and then got the others when next visiting Ropers to look at Caravans generally. Most dealerships have online sales but I suspect those pads are so universally available that, if you visited two dealerships I’d be amazed if at least one of them didn’t have them in stock. As I remember, the three dealerships mentioned had a box of them - maybe 20 or 30 in the box, near other miscellaneous items such as spare towball covers, tent/awning pegs etc.

Hi Keith and Michele hope u well good tips on how to solve issue with pooling on the awning roof I had the same problem until I bought some pads from kampa and it solve the problem I do know that if u buy the awning u got now in the 2018 upward the air poles r twice as thick now and very sturdy and strong in the wind as I found out last year down Brean I'm very please with the kampa rally pro awnings especially the GRANDE model really nice awning cheers as always. Hi Labradors On Tour, We’ve just come back after experiencing very heavy rain! The pads worked a treat for us 👍🏻 Stopped all the pooling of water brilliantly. Hi guys kampa do a pack of awning pads that cost about 5.95 for about 8 in a pack look on the web I also used them on the bottom of the awning when I we are on hard standing the are brilliant used them now for 2years plus hope this helps David duffy

What is your opinion about the Kampa supplied plastic stakes? I actually replaced mine as they weren’t doing a good job.

Hi Boontjes, In our experience we would, without doubt, advise purchasing steel rock pegs as these can be used for both grass & hard standing. The plastic pegs supplied with the awning are ok in “perfect” weather conditions but not great in windy conditions. Hope this helps, many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.

Really? Just ditch it and buy a proper poled awning. Sorry. Why should you have to mess about with bits of wood to overcome the shortcomings of a poorly designed and manufactured product. It’s one of the reasons we got rid of our Kampa.
