It would be interesting to make a remote-controlled airplane with a hard drive motor. ESC: amzn.to/3ejpBjL Power Supply: amzn.to/3x8tLnb Function Generator: amzn.to/3n7bQIK

Be careful lol... Those things will do decent damage if the platter breaks apart and becomes shrapnel.
@TannerTech3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had safety glasses on. That probably would not be enough to stop all the shrapnel though haha
@lennyvalentin64852 ай бұрын
@@TannerTech You had safety glasses over your mouth, throat, stomach, d--k, crown jewels...? >:) High velocity shrapnel is EVIL. Especially plastic, as it tends to splinter into tiny fragments (due to brittleness/low strength) and is hard to find during exploratory surgery as it won't show up on a metal detector or such instruments. I'd suggest a decent sheet of plywood inbetween you and crazy-a-- experiment, or at least not direct line-of-sight. ;)

lol, that weird sound at the end was... kinda scary, but for the jokes could be interpreted as plane engine failure and eventually crash on a mountain :D

the hard drive your messing with spins at 15,000rpm normally, those 15k drives have 2.5" platters in a 3.5" case for heat, turbulance, and access time reasons.
@treasuretotrash20673 жыл бұрын
If you were to replace the bearing do you think it could reach maybe 70,000 rpm? :P
@TannerTech3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps. I also probably could have if I had a larger power supply and a better ESC.
@BoBaH_BoBaHoB2 жыл бұрын
72k RPM will be good.

But how fast is the read and write speed?

at this speed it cannot be read or write

How to get SSD read and write speeds on a mechanical harddrive.🧐
@marwi16a532 ай бұрын
Usual hard drives for home users spin at 7200RPM, energy saving drives at 5400RPM. But you have a server drive, those spin at 10000RPM, and yours is even the fastest at 15000RPM
@arbiteras2 жыл бұрын
If it was stabilized to work normally, it would be faster than ssd, right?
@bhxlegend3 ай бұрын
No never ssd literally pull and push electrons to read and write no mechanical drives can do that plus just to run it at 50k rpm you'll need somewhere around 4amps so not worth it 😂
@Muzzaymann22606 ай бұрын
Thanks for the help, but how much power supply you are using at that crazy speed.

Haha, true! get those high data speeds and limited lifespans

You maybe need some longer leads so you can experiment at a safer distance 😂 putting a cover over things is a nice idea if you don't like the thought of metal shattering and launching itself into you
@Athisproductions2 жыл бұрын
do you think you could put a prop on it?
@phonotical3 жыл бұрын
I'd like to have seen it in actual operation, reading and writing, but with the speed being entirely manual
@TannerTech3 жыл бұрын
I would as well, although I do not think that would work as it would have to sync it's reading with the rotations of the disk. The circuit would not know the speed under manual control.

Where you are not uploading from last 2 years? Can we get a free esc from hard drive motherboard itself that was used to run the hdd motor when it was working?
@rav_66023 жыл бұрын
You should hit up electro boom for a fancy oscilloscope

Good idea! I found this one in the trash and fixed it up. I commented on electroboom's channel to win a scope once, but did not win it.

Normally the esc works 0 to 5v to change the speed. Did you just connect the generator to the center wire and ground?
@TannerTech3 жыл бұрын
The ESC uses a PWM signal that switches between 0 and 5 volts 100 times per second. The ratio of the time it is at 5 volts and the time it is at 0 volts(duty cycle) determines speed.
@TannerTech3 жыл бұрын
I connected the hard drive motor to the 3 wires. It doesn't matter which ones
