After change the radiator to a more accurate geometry basic floor modification were made. The result was a decent increase in downforce. The openFoam simulation series is a continuation of a Hillclimb aerodynamics build. At this stage is is a has a cla = -0.3, but it is is starting from a body shape that has a high lift value. This Mk1/Mk2 Golf GTi has a generally bad aerodynamic characteristic with particularly high lift values at the front. Achieving no lift at the front means that 300N @30m/s is produced by the splitter, which is equivalent to a cla=-0.5.....

so interesting to see how complicated getting the front to work is!

Bro, i don't understand a single thing but i'm here for it. Thanks for exposing me lack of knowledge, now i have more reading to do.

love the style and information you provide in your videos mate, very helpful. i did world time attack last year and your videos have made me realise how important and complex aero is.

i would love to see vented hood effects , placement , desings etc , to add downforce while better venting the engine heat

You explained things for an aerodynamics engineers audience but not enthusiasts who are interested in learning more. I would love to watch things explained from the beginning and get an idea of how it works ! Even graphics it wasn’t understandable for what is what I didn’t see units it was very much coming all at once. I would nonetheless love to see more of your content

I recommend watching kyle.engineers videos on cfd, he explains it for beginners really well imo.

What program do you do the CFD in?

So the next step is splitter tunnels/diffusers and a wing profile right? I’m interested why you didn’t cover the rest of the floor as well, is that a ruleset thing or more concern for heat build up

Ye I was going to say front diffusers and seal the engine bay off from under the car

I don't understand most of the underlying science and it is still intriguing to see these iterations of aero and the effects of them with your expert explanation. It was surprising to hear that the diffuser lip has caused front lift. Crazy how complex an aero system can be. Does your model consider suspension movement? Does e.g. the increased rear downforce change the angle of the floor in the simulation? Does that contribute to the occuring front lift or is the lift only related to the change in flow structure?

You've taken a look at the slotted spoilers/wings before, but I would kindly ask you to perhaps take a look at the weird spoilers such as the one from the Peugeot 207 99g. The one where it is basically a spoiler, but with the central area being shorted and the sides longer. Would be interested to see how this would affect the side vortices!

Does the exhaust outlet have a lot of influence on aerodynamics? Does its position influence the gas output? Old nascars use the barrel at 45 degrees, modern ones are straighter in relation to the body.

doesn't seem so on a hatchback. I try to run solutions on the suzuki model and found a big load of nothing, that was with a rough floor.... Big difference for a aero device, so maybe with a flat floor. Re: Other comment. The plane is after the radiator, so it is indicative of the engine bay. So lower the average the better. I'm going to more on rad ducting, but the front side, base on a single experiment, said it was a bit better....

I think I didn't understand the way you made the splitter work as a wing. Did you make a section of it higher than the floor, in order to create a Venturi Tunnel effect?

put... winglets at the point between the side panels and base of the rear glass, that wrap around the body (flush to the body), the aerofoil should kick upwards.. the winglets should not span the full width of the rear.. approx 1/3 of the way in. you will be surprised how effective this is.. its about making the radius of the recirculation bubble smaller and more predictable.. with a centre point vertically higher..
