I purchased a 2012 Mercedes-Benz cls 63 amg and I have to say I don’t regret it at all. It had 61,879 miles on it one owner and I love it , it never gets old those weekend morning cold starts. I love it.

Giving that m156 the love it deserves. I empty my catch can every 1000 miles, always surprised at how much oil it collects. Another great video 🫡

if you loosen the T45 for the crossover tube that runs over top of the bell housing, it makes changing out the valve pretty easy. We got those things down to under 15 mins during the M156 warranty days. early ones had a red rubber flap inside and it would tear creating a funny sound and possible check engine light, would also fill the intake with oil. MB updated to a green seal and was much stronger. quick way to check the diverter valve is to pull the dip stick while the engine is a idle, if it sound like a vacuum cleaner sucking air, the valve is toast. also on a side note, MB just released an extended rear subfame warranty extension for all w204,207 and 212 vehicles. if your rear subframe is rotting away at the welds, it's covered under warranty. We have been getting some really bad ones in recently.

Very cool. It would be interesting to get an update after 3k miles to see how much it collects. Too bad there’s no way to see a sight glass to keep an eye on the level without opening it. (Oh, and I’d still choose the Corvette given the choice!)

I was very impressed by your knowledge on this, most owners just take it to a tech. It's not bad particulate oil being caught by the catch can. It's the fresh clean blow by oil from your engine to prevent it from going back into your intake system. You can actually pour that blow by back into your crank case. Great video !!

You're no scrub, so take my advice with a grain of salt, in my own experience with catch cans on my evo, I check the catch can levels more frequently in the winter time. I assure because the air is denser, it makes more condensation in the intake and such. Just my .02, great content!

Awesome vid as usual Chris! I forwarded this vid to a buddy of mine who also has an AMG. 2 questions: 1) how hard is it to empty / clean out the catch can? I'm assuming you'd have to disconnect it and then take it apart to clean it out? 2) is the catch can cold weather friendly? I ask because I had a catch can kit on my mark5 VW jetta and it froze on me - the lines/catch can was frozen solid - I had to disconnect it during the winter......

Chris, in the future, you might want to dismantle your intake manifold (extremely carefully, very fragile alloy and threads) in order to inspect and paint its guts with Rustoleum as preventive measure. The magnesium alloy which is notorious for rusting requires it for longevity. These manifolds can't be bought new, its a worthy thing to do if you plan to keep the car long term like me )) And, hopefully you will never need to, but if needed and you wanted new cams (no longer made), check out blackboost billet stock profile cams set for 4200 USD, basically unbeatable price and quality (other companies asking 8000+), they will probably outlast the car not like cheap cast oem cams. Got these installed with new tappets, hopefully will never have to open that damn valve cover again, ever ))

You‘ve done an amazing job maintaining your E63, and give it the love it needs and also should get from an owner who enjoys this car ans especially this glorious engine! 🙏 I said it before, I really really like your W212 E63 with the M156, but your W211 E55 AMG with the M113K still has a bigger place in my heart because of the M113K engine 😍😍😍 But as a German I do love both of these engines, and I‘m actually a BMW guy and driver (over 25 years now) 🥴😉 But Mercedes did an awesome job developing and building these stunning engines M156 and M113K. Chris, love seeing the AMG on the channel again! Yep, the M156 requires more frequent oil changes to reduce the cam shaft wear. Did you have the ECU and TCU tuned? I have on my SLK55 AMG that makes a world of difference.

the exhaust cams are bathed in oil all the time because they are on the bottom, the intake cams on the other hand just receive pass by oil on its way to the bottom of the valve cover.....hence why the cams which seem to show all the wear are always intake cams.....however, i think there is more to it. I have over 300k mi on my m156 and (knock on wood) my cams all still look brand new. I even ran the same LiquiMoly for around 80k mi just changing the filter every 7k and topping off with fresh oil. But i honestly believe a lot of this cam wear hate comes from WHERE our typical source is located, i mean we all know we are talking about Tasos. Look what the engines he has access to are exposed to.....they are in a SAND COVERED ENVIRONMENT 24/7.....i genuinely believe THAT is a substantial factor in the cam wear he sees in the middle east. I am in Georgia where i have zero sand and have zero wear after 300k+ HARD miles...... I also went with 63 for the adjuster plates and not only are the plates amazing but their customer service is second to none!!!!! Keep up the good work my Friend!!!

When this car came out, I wished to be in a position in my life to buy one. Unfortunately the way my life has gone, I'll probably never be able to own one.

here my experience with catch can on VAG car. Same set up. but it dont work. im catching humidity who come dirty water in the can it can froze and the main problem was the system make a restriction to crankcase flow not good at all and it smoke on high RPM. this big V8 need to breath can filter make restriction. going tp fill up fast with dirty little bit oily water. No miracle there. On DI injection valve cleaning is maintenance on port injection intake manifold cleaning is needed. Those PCV on euro car of this era are not the best it is wath it is.

Nice Video like evrytime, Ur choice is very good to give 5w40 oil for ur car, because 0w40 will kill ur camshaft and Belt. Even the amg oil they are also 0w40 and not good for Our engine. I heard ur engine is thicking too, think the hydros under the camshaft, still i didnt change too, but should, if u do cold start u hear it like my car. U can use 2x ceratec from liqui Molly or u can change the next time the oil, to ravenol RCS 5w40. I use it too and the engine Noise is realy not to hear. Very good for amg 6.2 engines, amg specialst are swear of it. ✌️👍
