Great video Dillon! I love mofi’s! I have a massive mofi library. Luckily I started buying mofi’s in the early 2000’s when prices were reasonable. My favorite mofi has to be Queen’s the game. This pressing blows the commercial release out of the water! I totally agree. You should have a nice system to fully appreciate and soak in these recordings.

Working in a record store about 14 years ago. These original masters were no big deal. You could pick some of these up used for 10 bucks. The sound quality always seemed more like a gimmick. The packaging was always the reason why I would consider picking one up. Makes you feel like you have something special. The cds were sooooo abundant especially used. The discs for those were like gold on the data side. Haha! Now that’s special. You’ve got a great collection of these though. Kinda jealous.

Original Master Recording means they had the actual real master tape; Mobile Fidelity Sound lab means they had not the actual master tape. for example, they used the US tape (which is a copy of the UK master tape) for the t-rex electric warrior MFSL release.

During the original run of mofi disks there was a difference on the cover printing. It revolved around regular type set for Original master recording or italicized type that’s supposedly depicted the source for the pressing. I can’t recall now what I was told InThe 70s on the difference. Does anyone know if the single mofi Beatle lps were the same stampers as the box set ? Great collection Dillion. Yes more blues lps.

Next year is gonna great for One Steps! Especially excited for the Brew and the Cannonball Adderley ones! I’ve heard the Marvin Gaye is amazing, but some folks don’t like that in order to do it at 45 rpm, they broke up the suite, so you don’t get the album played the way it was intended to be heard. Hey Dillon, I love your videos man. Just out of curiosity, what is the most you’re typically willing to spend on an album? I know you’ve had some great luck and found some cheap grails but I was just curious. My most recent MOFI is Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue. I bought that one brand new for about $80. I’ve got an excellent condition “Magical Mystery Tour” MOFI on the way that I purchased for $60 but with shipping it came $70. I don’t seem to find many grails at bargain price these days 🤣

@stayalivegaming1018
@stayalivegaming1018 2 жыл бұрын
I think they no longer use half speed mastering on their new records. For two reasons 1. Discogs does not say anything about it. 2. MoFi do not advertise the "half speed mastered" element on newer records, whereas the older ones proudly advertise the ½ speed mastering part of the record.

I've been collecting vinyl for years. It's a great hobby for a music fan. I have NEVER understood audiophiles. I get the appreciation of the music, I don't get the amount of money being spent. The systems I have seen are insane and so is the cost. Then you have double or triple the cost for the vinyl. It has never added up for me.

No they started recording trains in their first incantation. The branding depends as to whether they had access to the original master tapes so original master recording the other i.e. MFSL and silver label are where they cut from a "lesser" source. The Jim Hall is not cut from the original masters it's a silver label, hence quality potentially not as good.

There were also classical MoFi reissues. Ironically, some of them fell short of the UK originals. For example, the Solti Romantic Russia (Decca SXL 6263) was not that great, and you can buy it for $50-100. The Decca wideband original? That will set you back $200 or so.

I bought a crate of Mofi records at a boot sale off a guy for almost nothing when vinyl was dead just cos I knew what they were and was interested to compare them against standard. Aqualung, you cannot make a badly recorded album suddenly sound good, its terrible even the Mofi version is terrible. So are they hyped up? Obviously unless you own a standard release poor quality pressing then I guess anything could be better even a CD
@mymixture965
@mymixture965 2 жыл бұрын
Everybody has his own opinion, I am not in MoFi records. Just one calculation as most people buy them because of the "better" sound. When I buy lets say 100 records as MoFi version instead of the regular pressing, how much price difference is there? Let's say a MoFi costs you 150,00, times 100 records are 15.000,--. 100 records, regular pressing, 20,00 a piece is 2000,00. Think about on how much upgrades you can make on your HiFi with 13.000,--.....and this will make ALL your records sound better. I always wonder how many MoFi collectors have a rather poor or medium level system. I invest my money in my system first. I think this is smarter. But that's just my 2 cents........
