To me, going for sheer power with a bit of accuracy in a penalty kick is just statistically better than all other options because of the distance between the penalty kicker's spot and the goal line. You're more likely to score this way. It's harder for a goalkeeper to save it because even if he gets a hand or any body part on the ball it will most likely ricochet into the back of the net

For me it is very easy to know where he is going for He dont have good technique for a penalty taker Fabinho is a skillfull penalty taker Salah goes for the centre area of the goal nearly half of his penalties So by standing still you have 50 % chance of saving it That what mendy did in the last penalty He goes central with a lot of power with the palm of the foot Its usually the part of the foot you use when the ball is in the air If the ball on the ground you dont have much control on the trajectory apart from it going straight coz the slight mistake in angle of kick can modify the trajectory of the ball significantly what happended to salah in the qualifiers Mendy just stood there and didnt engage and salah chose the center with power If it would have been on target mendy would have saved it
