Mortazavis unique style is characterized by developing new playing techniques and sound effects, which attest to virtuous creativity and keen sensuality. You have to see him live on stage to believe that his compositions are pure solo pieces without technical effects, his sound spectrum is so complex and multilayered. He revolutionized the traditional playing technique.
"Mohammad Reza Mortazavi is not only using the traditional Persian percussion instruments Tombak and Daf as rhythmic instruments. But he creates pieces of a melancholic concentration supported by harmonies and multivoiced sound structures, which add an associative structure full of images and narrative dialogues to his compositions."

This separates the men from the boys in the percussion world. Anyone can bang out a simple rhythm on a darbuka. This is something special, in a category all its own. Truly advanced technique! Thank you for sharing this.

das ist fantastisch!!! ganz viele neue und einzigartige Ideen! und ganz andere "Benutzung" des Instrumentes! Das gefällt viellicht den vielen traditionalisten nicht aber es ist eine grossartige Erweiterung der Möglichkeiten. Ich kenne den Spiele nicht aber Er ist eben kein Tombakspieler sonder einwahrer Percussionist mit genreübergreifenden Kenntnisse!

واقعا که زیبا کار کردی.. چقدر قشنگ میشه آهنگ(بیا برویم ازین ولایت من و تو ..) رو شنید. در ضرب زمان هست ولی آهنگ نیست. بسیار توانایی بخرج دادی و خلاقیت. واقعا تبریک.

Bahman Rajabi has never been able to play melodies on his drum. Why do you dislike Mortazavi so much? He is a big talent and a modest person, so where is the problem?

@Salomejun Actually he was the first person to do that. He played Atal Matal...... Mr.Mortazavi is a great tombak player. But Rajabi is at a difrent level.

Come to Berlin, 11.3. Berliner Philharmonie, then you will see, that it is real!!! I am sorry, but Bahman Rajabi is not the only one who is able to play drums!
