They will never be exactly like your culture. They have a different body type and spirit and this type of dance form will continue to evolve differently in their hands. People adopt ideas from other artists and cultures all the time--but--everyone makes it their own eventually.

+Old Lady Smell What has 'body type' got to do with cultural identity? They are wearing Indian clothes and dancing to an Indian song, it is not something vaguely inspired by Indian cultural identity it is that. And I as an Indian don't think it's right for them to wear Indian clothes, it should be left to Indian women! They can dance to an Indian song, but wearing our clothes is unacceptable. I cannot change my name to Yukio Fujiwara and start wearing Japanese garments and pretend as if it were my own inherent cultural identity, this is what I am getting at.

If you changed your name to Yukio Fujiwara, and started wearing Japanese clothes, most likely nobody would believe you are Japanese. That's my whole point. I live in California and people are always dressing up in clothes from different backgrounds and cooking fusion foods like quinoa with Asian vegies or Korean tacos. It might be interesting and maybe pretty good but it's never going to be like the original.

Old Lady Smell That is what I am getting at - Their attire isn't something vaguely inspired by Indian cultural attire it is that. They are appropriating Indian cultural identity, I am all for art being practised and don't mind at all that they are dancing to an Indian song but they should not be wearing Indian clothes. Indian cultural identity is inherent to those of the Indian subcontinent it isn't just for anyone to appropriate and claim as their own.

According to aesthetics of Indian art of dance - four aspects of a performance: Angika (gestures and body language), Vachika (song, recitation, music and rhythm), Sattvika(artist's mental disposition and emotional connection with the story and audience) and AHARYA (stage setting, COSTUME, make up, jewelry) is an integral thing. It is related to Indian classical dances. Though this particular piece is a semi-classical cinematic composition (music, dance and choreography) we made an effort and tried our best to make it as much as possible matching to those aspects. If you don't mind persuing Indian art by foreigners, please next time make sure you know such basic information before commenting on topic of your own culture which seems to be not fully known and understood by you.
