I think Taxi Driver did the same long before Joker came out. Many of the elements in this movie were predictable but the acting and music was superb.

But, this all wound up making the TRIUMPH that is Joker, all the sweeter for everyone involved in that project; from the writers, director and stars, to the key grip and Dolly guy! Whilst younger audiences, who may not know about Taxi Driver, now have a reference to look into and expand their movie appreciation. The director quite happily admits to the inspiration and openly discusses its comparisons and differences. Seeing it as a rip off will mar your enjoyment. Enjoying the homage, will enhance it. Maybe come at it with more of a, “Glass Half Full,” perspective? Respectfully . . . ✌️
