The line “there’s a whole big universe out there” by Peach really makes me think that at some point we’ll see Rosalina. Helps that there was also a Luma that was very obviously used for comedic relief, which gives audiences more of a reason to see more of them.

and that is precisely what pissed me off. Jack Black needs to learn how to play more than just one character. He applies the same personality to every single role he gets casted as, it is exhausting. Bowser was sooo badass in the beginning of the movie and don't get me wrong I love the humor we get from the soft side that Bowser has for Peach, but was the piano scene actually that necessary? they could've kept the post-credit one, but the first one should not have been in the movie. it was so distracting.

I really liked the Bowser piano for a set drop, but the singing was a bit over the top and went on a bit long for my tastes. Bowser is, at least in the RPG spinoffs, a total dork with muscles for brains. He's quirky and weird and silly, but thinks with his fists and is very much one track minded.

My pastor told the other day when he went to go see the movie with his grand children he saw three dudes in their mid 30s sitting in the back of the theatre laughing their asses off the entire time and that they even left a standing ovation. I just got back from seeing this, and my main thought was “how are they gonna portray the Mario universe?”. For as quirky and fun as this movie truly was, I was really excited to see how well they integrated some element of most of the Mario franchise games into the movie’s storyline, plot, and visuals. Many were obvious, many felt like easter eggs, all of it was fun. It was very tastefully done. I was pleasantly surprised with this movie, and I’ll definitely see it at least a second time.

Also, I think Mario just landing in the Mushroom Kingdom through a pipe from a seemingly different reality, and the story progressing as it did was delightful. I mean, the dude HAD to try his best to rescue his brother. If it was Peach being captured, what would Mario’s motivation be, to rescue a Princess he had never met? I guess I could see the argument of saying the movie should have been written differently, but a “brother saves brother” story just works for where this movie was going up to that point. So glad the movie just kept delivering. Bro the Kong Kingdom being the bearer of the Karting tech was the funniest.

@@AntVenom I also agree that the story works much much better with the brother save brother narrative since they did end up going for the classic storyline. They could have dragged it out with setup and such, but they just took the story we all knew and put a spin on it, while Luigi still gets his times to shine. The fact we saw the kongs all also makes the world feel a lot more alive. I wish they had like an extra 15 minutes to explore the world a little bit more, but other than that it was very fun to watch.

it's sad that luigi didn't get a lot of screentime, but i think him being captured works well. if they were never separated then they wouldn't really have much of a reason to stay there, there was nothing stopping them from just going home. it also gives mario a bigger reason to care if his brother is in danger, he's obviously trying to help because he's a good guy, but it's more urgent to him specifically cuz of luigi being captured
@Ammiteur9
@Ammiteur9 Жыл бұрын
I also really love that, because of Luigi getting captured everything Mario did in the movie was because he decided to do it, not because he had a duty to (well I mean you could see rescuing your brother as something you really should do, but what I love about it is that it was purely out of love and willpower). All of it makes Mario a pretty active hero, and through getting to spend time with Peach, Toad,and Donkey Kong, he get's the will to truly save everyone at the end because they're his friends now.

One scene I particularly enjoyed was the training montage where Mario goes through a standard Mario level. The reason I like it so much is because it perfectly captured how it feels to play a Mario game for the first time. You die to the most basic of enemies and in the most embarrassing of ways, and eventually, after so many tries, you actually become decent and can run the level relatively easily and quickly. the problem was that video game adaptation movies never stayed true to the source material, they always wanted to be their own thing and i think after the blow out and absolute success with the sonic movie after fans went ape shit over the designs and acting it showed hollywood to stop fucking with what is established and just give us a movie with roughly the established lore and plots. paramount found out with their halo show being a huge bust that people dont like a Master Chief that wants to fuck every woman he sees and shows his face to everyone. maybe now we can start getting some good movies from games now, but if i may ask... were any of the resident evil movies bad? i know a few of them were pretty good, the silent hill movie based on the games from what i heard had an okay rating or at least good enough to earn a second movie, and one or two of the mortal kombat movies from the 90's were okayish.

I think they included the 80s rock segments because that is around the time this story takes place. I think Luigi was captured to give Mario the instant motivation to help with no questions asked instead of the movie having to spend 30 minutes trying to convince the audience that Mario and Luigi got attached and stayed in the mushroom kingdom instead of just getting on the fastest pipe back to Brooklyn before the plot is even uncovered. I just wanna say I think the best part about this movie is how they portrayed Mario and Luigi’s brotherly relationship. Quick history/info: In the past games Mario and Luigi’s relationship as brothers is what you’d expect. They’re not rivals but they are competitive with each other and seem to be on different paths. The biggest thing is a Tennis(?) game where if you win as Luigi and win the trophy, Mario teases him by stepping on his shoe. They’re brothers but not friends. In the movie they very genuinely love and care for each other. The way they hug, fist bump, held hands and (spoilers) reunite left a strong impact on me. The way Mario touched Luigi’s face when they reunited because he was so relieved to see him again was incredible to me. He didn’t like cup his cheeks but for a brief moment (blink and you’ll miss it-) he reached up. I feel like we don’t see that too often in media where men publicly display even platonic affection between friends, family, or even lovers like that. It’s so so so small but truly means a lot to me and I hope the way Mario and Luigi love each other leave an impact on my brothers too.

I think it makes the most sense for Luigi to be kidnapped in this movie's context. If you were all of a sudden transported to some random ass place where a fire-breathing, talking, turtle dragon monster and his army were taking over, and he had apparently gotten a power that would make him invincible, most people wouldn't be selfless enough to be like "Yeah Imma help these mushroom people because it's what I do as a plumber." That doesn't make sense, he has no attachments to them, and it would be dumb. Since his brother is also trapped in this world by said monster, it gives him a reason to care and want to help because he is in trouble and alone. His caring for a princess that he didn't know prior wouldn't make sense, but maybe if they make another movie, they could go that route now that they know each other.

I mean you’re not wrong, but almost all decisions and motivations of the characters in this film are very weak, so they might as well let Mario join them and save the kingdom “just because.” It isn’t the focus of the film anyways.

I went to see the movie with my friends in theaters the day that it came out, and the smile that I had on my face from beginning to end was so big my face was hurting! The Animation! The Voice Acting! The Music! The Easter Eggs and References! *THE NOSTALGIA!!!* *THE PEACHES SONG!!!* And the best thing? It was on my birthday. It's like I got a gift straight from my childhood. I didn't need any deep meaning or lore. It was simply a movie about Mario being Mario. And I love it for that.

Literally had the same thoughts as me especially when it came to being put off by Chris Pratt as the VA for Mario but was actually surprised that it wasn’t cringey as I had anticipated. @@Looker0 I'm really glad she didn't. Aside from being very cliched, why would Mario want to save some random person in a world he's unfamiliar with? In fact, it's a billion times more heartwarming to see how greatly Mario cares for his brother, and will do ANYTHING in his power to keep him safe. Not to mention Peach was one of the best characters in the whole film. i'd argue that having her earning her title as royalty by being brave, caring, and standing up against Bowser because of how much she cares for her subjects is much better than just having her sit behind bars the whole time. Going off of that last bit, Peach is implied to have lived in the Mushroom Kingdom all her life in various trailers. Mario, and by extension Luigi, just got there. which characters sound like they'd be LESS experienced in how the mushroom world works, and end up getting captured by the hostile inhabitants?
