So, that's why the remake has been getting a lot of hate: many either do not remember or have never played the original game. Silent Hill 2 is praised for its atmosphere and characters, which appears to be translated well in the remake. Just like the original, James is no trained fighter, making encounters purposely awkward. The clumsy combat added to the tension of the game, since you were not a confident character. And, if (5:41) says anything, combat is best avoided; this practice was also encouraged in the 2001 source material. I'm glad that Bloober Team did not turn this remake into a complete RE clone, and I hope that the negative feedback does not encourage them to do so.

Honestly it looks pretty good, the original is my favourite game of all time, but the controls and combat absolutely sucked balls haha we struggled through it because the atmosphere and story were, and still are, second to none.

The game dont look scary at all, thats my biggest concern.. Also i feel like the original was in the perfect place in the perfect time, the stars have aligned perfectly to create something that unique and unrepeatable. So even if this remake will be reeeally good, Silent Hill was not just another Resident Evil game wich had no subtelty. The RE remakes worked because they had nothing graphically, narratively, gameplay-wise hidden, so they just had to make a modern survival game out of them. Silent Hill is different. The camera angles played a huge factor of the game being unnerving at all times, the ambient sounds, the low visibility all the time, the dirt and hollowness in all of the environments, i feel like most of these will be somehow lost, not to mention that older graphics have something extra unnerving about them. I hope the devs will find a way to address all these, and that they even realize whats missing, because otherwise it will be just some other survival horror game without all that that made SH2 special.

theres 2 camps to these complainers. 1)people whove never played the game and think this new combat is too slow 2)og purists who think the combat is too involved. for me its not too bad what theyve shown. im more concerned about the VA and depictions of certain characters. the environments look amazing so far though. and the nurses sound like straight up clickers in this game.

One of my issues right off the bat is the way they changed Maria's look. She's wearing less sexy / revealing clothing which also covers her butterfly tattoo. Making her less sexy undermines one of the reasons for her existence. The game looks great but how can they not understand why she's dressed the way she was.

I think the combat is actually ok I like the mix between TLOU style meelee and RE2 style gunplay. I really don't like the blood overlay when you're damaged. My main issue is with story and presentation, SH doesn't relly on cheap scares and thrills and relies more on on the player wallowing in the environment and unsetling situations to give the scares. That's why many people where excited to have Kojima direct the new SH, while his recent storytelling leaves alot to be disired, the man is a master of detail and hiding things between the lines and knowing how to do that is a must when doing a SH game.

Heres the important thing. The old fans will hate the new stuff and the new fans will hate the old stuff like the slow combat. The devs cant won

Can someone explain to me a mystery about Silent Hill 2? If in Silent Hill 1 all the manifestations come from one source, that is one girl, how then in Silent Hill 2 do the manifestations come from multiple sources, that is from every individual who happens to be there? I would really appreciate it if someone could sort this out for me.

I vote for fixed cinematic perspectives tho. It was an integral part of the experience imo in building tension, suspense, and showing off the environment in a unique way, to me it’s a huge part of what made the game as unsettling as it was. Also the graininess of the original, tho it was old, it was done with artistic intention that I think added to the melancholic, tattered feel of the original.

Personally i feel like james' aim should be a little shakier. Like you have to fight to actually get it head-on. He's shown to be afraid multiple times in the teasers and the like, so it would also give a sense of realism. I'm not trying to nitpick but i feel like it would add an extra sense of realism. Im not talking like "shaking in your boots" type shaking but like make it noticable yknow?

The combat was bounded to be more tiktok resident evil action pack oriented, like it or not if you want more SH games yougotta sell this one to the younger overstimulated small people. My only complaint about the combat is that James moves like a Unreal Engine simulation with a combat preset on. It gives off the same exact vibes, I could almost SWEAR it was a combat preset reskin made by a fan. I hope they clean it off at least one bit.

I've personally played Silent Hill since the PSX original and I am loving what Bloober has revealed so far. The additions to the atmosphere, the original remastered score, I'm going to play the hell outta this game! Remake or not, I try to be up for whatever Silent Hill release occurs with what little time I have these days. Could other studios do better, maybe. But they'd get just as much sh*t too. Does Konami suck for it's negligence of this franchise, absolutely! But I'm grateful some form of remake is occurring. I've been waiting for a full length Silent Hill game for some time now and I'm ready to go back. You think the combat is slow and clunky on this remake? Grow some balls and play the original, that'll piss you off more than the SH2 Remake will. James ain't the special forces or a cop, he's just a guy looking for his wife trying to survive with what he knows. I'm sure if Bloober animated James to react harder to any in game guns recoil, there'd be complaints about that too. There's no winning here. Bloober continued with this assignment even with all the whiny backlash they've received. So many differences from the original SH2 and, trust me, there are things I would've done differently if I had my own development team, but I don't and I'm at the mercy of Konami's cash grab. A lot of cope in these comments. I'm not impressed at all. The graphics are an upgrade technically but its like 20 years later so I expect that much. But even so, the visuals are... just bad. The gameplay should be slow and sluggish but this is painful to watch. There's no feedback on a third of the swings. The aiming doesn't have to be super snappy but it looks really jank. The animations look a par with the ps2 era. Everything is so stiff and awkward. And then there's angela's character model... If this wasn't a remake it would not stack up to other games being released now. The RE remakes comparatively destroy this.

Not a fan of them trying to make voice acting "good". They purposefully made the voice actors sound they way they they did in the original to add to the off-putting dreamlike atmosphere.

Gotta say this. For a company that it's not in the same caliber as Capcom in terms of remake, the game looks cool. Sure, there are some details that can be polished: Like the combat and walking animations (even tho, the original didn't have have an outstanding combat, it was janky too) and some character models (for example: Angela looks normal in some frames, but in other frames, she looks a little bit chubby or plastic), but overall, it's fantastic. But what actually surprised me was when they talked about the game. They actually described and get about how James should fight (he's not a hero or a soldier, he's just a civilian). And they didn't exaggerate in the characters expressions or voice, for example: James voice in the first trailer sounded too deep and his expressions didn't look so subtle, but they actually listened and now his tone is much higher and his expressions are much more stoic and Maria's voice is very similar to the original one, even Angela voice sound good and even got the notes from previous ones (Donna Burke's expressions and tone; and Laura Bailey's younger voice). They even get the ambience right and they're actually changing some events locations, so it would not be just a copy paste. But something that gets off tho are the reactions. Some say that it feels Kojima less (my god, Kojima never participated in a Silent Hill game previous to P.T.), others aren't satisfied (when the first trailer was revealed, they cried about the expressions saying that they aren't subtle. They changed it and now they're saying the characters are emotionless and look more stoic, saying that they need to show more expressions), and others say that the combat is very janky (i get about the animations, but saying that James is not fighting like a hero or doesn't handle weapons like a professional means that some don't get a civilian fights in real life, a normal person who didn't used a baseball bat grabs one and fights like a pro baseball player in an instant). Overall, i'm expanding my comment too much, but every comment is appreciated.

They hired DEI specialists to make this game, which explains why Angela is fat and Maria has had her sexy looks toned WAY BACK which denotes they have no idea wtf the story is even about, as Maria was a manifestation of Jame's guilt. It's subtle, if you're not a actual fan you will miss it. But The nurses and Maria represent Jame's sexual desires as his wife was dying of cancer and the guilt that caused him. These devs are getting the atmosphere pretty right, but the tone and the soul of SH2 will not be there.

I know this guy is popular but his opinions are trash. If you love silent hill, you’re gonna love this remake. The fighting system is meant to be that way to give the player a sense of fear with the character not having many options in weapons ammo or fighting. And Silent Hill one was just as good as Resident Evil one. If you’re old enough to have played if when it came out, it broke barriers and created actual fear in a game for the first time ever. It was amazing. They should remake SH1
