It’s not 2x4. In the video, I say it is 3/4 inch thick, so 0.75. I can’t recall how larger the hole is, but the it fit up just fine. You can always cut it small if the need arises.

@@sixsentsoldiers after review of video, no, those are not screw holes. They are from how they create the spikes that dig into the wood during the manufacturing process. You could probably fit a small screw in those holes, but as small as the screw would be to fit in those small holes, would probably would not add too much additional strength.

You can change the direction the fan blades spin. In fact most fans allow the direction of rotation to be changed. (One way during the summer, one way during the winter, for example).
