Unless you’re assigned a VFR altitude, you are able to climb/descend at your discretion. Same goes for navigation. You will only be assigned and altitude or heading for traffic or airspace. Once the traffic or airspace is no factor, the controller should cancel the restriction. If I controller assigns you a heading or altitude which will put you into IMC, it’s your responsibility to advise the controller.

Thanks again MojoGrip. ! Great comms and views of your transit. For new budding aviators out there , look and listen and learn from this video. The more you learn and listen into the sometimes rapid and confusing radio comms , the better prepared , and safer you will be. Cheers.

This is really cool. I cycle to work. Keeps me fit, and, just being honest, can't really afford faster transportation atm. Anyway, now I have new goal, so thanks.

Love the video, Mike. Your wind camera makes it look like your airplane his nose low all the time. Is that truly how it flies or is it the amount? It doesn’t look quite level when you are straight and level and I’m just wondering if that is a sling flying attitude

It’s just how the camera is mounted. If you just look at the plane in the frame it will always be angled downward even if he is climbing.

Can I give you a suggestion? My instructor, a long time pilot with over 10,000 hours told me never say "with you" when getting switched to a new control. He said it makes you look like a rookie and provides zero value to the controller. In a role where you need to be short and every word is valuable just check in and instead of saying with you say just say your altitude as that is something of value. Not calling you out as I said it also when I started my training and then he told me old time pilots chuckle at the newbs who say "with you" so I stopped and since then I have heard other long time pilots call out people who say "with you". Just provides zero value to the controller, ya know?

Man, I wish you were in Cali! LOL I love your style, approach and how you keep up with the industry in regards to planes and even owning a plane. I simply play MSFS 2020 after getting the helicopter bug. But, since both are in this sim, I'm just going nuts not being in a class! But, I'm broke so get calm all over again. LOL Anyhoo, this was a great insight into what happens when flying. The patience thing is essential I have learned. Looking forward to ALL of your vids. And wish you success with your teaching business!!!!

Looks like you came in on a long final. I thought the controller said to intercept the left base?
@jakeoesterreich8037
@jakeoesterreich8037 Жыл бұрын
Controller said a three mile left base. The problem with that is it could mean anywhere from 2.5 miles west and maybe .5 miles south of the runway all the rest around to 2.5 miles south and only .5 miles west of the runway, essentially making a 3 mile final
@camerongoodwin2020
@camerongoodwin2020 Жыл бұрын
@@jakeoesterreich8037 No it means set up to enter the traffic pattern directly in what would be a left base to the runway and report when you are three miles out, already lined up in what would be a left base entry

Avoid saying “with you” to ATC, especially when they are busy. It is unnecessary.

Oh I just made a long comment about this exact thing, I didn't see this comment before hand. Yea I was told by my old time instructor the same thing, he said its a tale tell sign of a rookie pilot. Kinda like those who say "any traffic in the pattern report your position" type of thing. It provides no value to the controller and they obviously know you are "with them" when checking in so instead just provide your altitude instead of "with you" is what I was told several hundred hours ago when training. I was guilty of it early in my flight training also, so its certainly not trying to call out MojoGrip

@@camerongoodwin2020 great points. But don’t rely just on what your instructor “told” you. Get in the books yourself. AC 90-66B is the Bible of non-towered ops. Lots of new info in there that has changed since your “old” CFI learned to fly, such as not using aircraft color when making traffic pattern calls.
@camerongoodwin2020
@camerongoodwin2020 Жыл бұрын
@@cessna177flyer3 I’m not, I’ve flown with lots of people who have heard the “with you” in the air and we have chucked about it. Again it’s like “any traffic in the pattern say position” type of language. Just kinda silly.

@@camerongoodwin2020 Sorry, I didn't mean for you personally to get in the books. I meant "all of us" need to refresh what we learned decades ago, much of it by word of mouth from a CFI. During my Air Force days, it didn't matter what your Instructor "said", it was all about what was in the book. If it wasn't in the book, it was a "technique" and not procedural. That mentality instilled an attitude of "show me where that's written" vs. "so and so told me". I think that mentality makes for better, more current pilots.
