MOKEN 10PDL vs MOKEN 12.5PDL -NEW Pedal drive kayak review 2023-affordable pedal drive kayak!

Madi and I took them both out, then switched. We filmed our full experience and review from our perspectives and what matters most in a kayak to us both.
Me being a fisherman and Madi pretty much just wanting to be comfortable enough to be on the water to name my fish, This is a full video full of honesty and fun!

I came here trying to decide if the 12.5 pdl would be stab enough to replace my paddle lure 11.5. I’m 6’ and 220# but only do trips under 5 hours and don’t need dry storage. So I’m thinking the 10pdl with its width might actually be better! Shorter and lighter to throw in a truck bed and then more stable. I just assumed 2’ longer would compensate for the 3” width difference. My lure 11.5 is 34” wide and 11.5 so likely more stable than both, but the pedals of the moken 10 is extremely tempting.

Absolutely correct. The Moken 10PDL would be best for you based on that. The ultimate mix would be adding the pedal drive to your lure 11.5, but if you want to go lighter and easier to move around, the Moken 10 is the answer :)

Hi Mike, I loved the review of the Moken 10 pedal. I have my eye on two Moken 10 PDL season leftovers at my local store. They are currently listed at $1,299. What do you think is the best price I could offer for one of these kayaks during the offseason in the northeast?

That is a pretty solid price in my opinion. I would not know what to offer in that situation. It is definitely a great kayak and my favorite model I have had in the last 4 years for sure.

Have you had any experience with the Vibe Makana 100? I'm trying to decide between the Makana fin xdrive and the Moken 10 pedal.

I have not tried out that kayak at all. But I can speak to the quality and stability of the moken. I think you will be very happy with the moken with its stability, quality build and amazing customer service.

is the 10 a good paddler? like to work out my upper bod and legs.. almost rdy to buy, looking hobie passport or the moken 10

The moken is much more stable and solid than the passport. The 10 paddles very well and with the rudder, it tracks extremely well. The 10PDL is a very solid boat and one of my favorite kayaks feelfree free has made in the last 7 years and I have had every single model they have made.

If the 10 had a decent sized hatch and a molded cupholder, that would be my choice, but I need in-hull storage and don't want to waste rail space with a cupholder...so I guess I'm going to go for a 12.5!

The extra 2.5’ allows room for the front hatch. There is still plenty of room for a dry bag with whatever you need behind the seat or in the rear tank well . Also, YakAttack makes an arm that comes out and allows you to mount two accessories on it. One on the rail and one extended out a little. I like using that for a cup holder and a rod holder all in one track space

@@TheBassquatchHunter good info! I'm coming from a Vibe Yellowfin 130T (that I paddle solo), so even the 12.5 would probably feel much smaller than what I'm used to.

How does the Moken drive system compare to the Native system? Seems a little more bulky than a Native.

Hey Mike. Great vid. If you had to rank them in order, how would you rate the moken 10 pdl, the moken 12 pdl, and the seastream angler pdl? Which takes first place, second, and third?

All based on the angler and hauling, storage and uses.. for me personally o would put moken 10 first, 12 then seastream. But moken 12 and seastream are both tied for second

Just received my Moken 10 PDL and was disappointed to say that my pedal drive did not latch onto the hook. I try applying as much pressure as possible to get the drive to latch onto the hook but it was impossible to do. I reached out to Eco Fishing where I got it from and they said they'll send me a 4 hole bracket which should solve the problem. But that just gets me thinking....did I get a messed up pedal drive or? is my pedal drive supposed to fit in nicely and just isn't? I don't know. Its a bummer having to wait again for my bracket to come in, I hope it comes with instructions on how to put it on. haha

Mine is tight as well but it is definitely supposed to be. The plastic comes out of the mold and if it dries and expands even 1/8” more than the one before it then it can make that tolerance even tighter. Definitely an easy fix and you want to make sure that latch is barely just reaching the hook so it stays tight:) sorry you had that issue though and I hope it’s simple to fix. Is it alright to use the Feelfree PDL in saltwater or are they damaged by it?

They are safe, but like anything else, rinse it with freshwater afterwards to avoid corrosion

I keep going Moken and Seastream 12s. You have me really thinking the 10 again. Fighting with throw and go or having space for storage. 17:50 you say 32" wide and now I'm back to SS 12pd. The 10 is 35" tho.... Ugh. The 10 looks like you can load it down good with 450 lb capacity. How do you think a 6-0 220lb guy for the 10?

I would say the 10 is solid but I always suggest everyone try it themselves first. We all have different comfort spots, balance and body types
