Can't imagine my surprise when my teenage daughter who only speaks English shared her Santa list where she asked vinyl record of Etazhi - Molchat doma. Of course i bought it.. and spent this evening procrastinating to the gorgeous music.

For all the non-Slavs in the comments talking about this sounding like New Order or Joy Division, you have got to check out the Soviet post-punk band Kino, because the influence here is definitely more from Kino (though Kino was heavily influenced by Joy Division, but you can really tell that Kino is the primary reference point here). Go listen to the album "Gruppa Krovi", you'll hear it immediately from the opening track.

Fun fact the musicians are from Belarus. They are known world wide and I'm proud of them as a Belarusian myself. Studying abroad this album reminds me of Minsk and it's soviet structures and Hruschow type of buildings mixed with modern architecture.

As a kid who was born in the 80's and grew up in the 90's - I remember the U.S.S.R. and watching it fly apart like a pigeon in a wind turbine was an experience. So much stuff that represents "alive, but decaying" comes out of Eastern Europe that it really gives me an appreciation of its people. Life is more than suffering. I appreciate you because you exist. I don't know how to describe this album, it makes me depressed but gives me hope all at the same time.

This is the best example I can think of of a 'perfectly imperfect' album. every song sounds similar, but not in a lazy way, there are flaws in the music and the vocals are almost dull sounding, but the backing tracks are art in their own right, they are so good. Every song manages to sound similar yet bring something new to the table in terms of Molchat Doma's style. These songs sound like things you would listen to in a sad mood, but also listen to in a happy mood, it's a very versatile lineup. I said the vocals are dull, but they fit the songs perfectly and the vocalist is genuinely very talented at singing. I just love this album so much, man. I can't wait to see when their next album comes out!

The lyrics mirror post-soviet reality. Really worth translating. I recommend it to you. I think everybody agrees with the lyrics of Kommersanty - no matter what country the "salesmen" willing to take more than they should are everywhere.
