Hi all! Here are my thoughts on Moldova's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2023! Pasha Parfeni and his song, 'Soarele și Luna'. I really enjoyed the melody of the chorus. I'm hoping that his vocals will stand out more on the Eurovision stage.

It's rather nice, isn't it? The biggest adventage he has is he's the only singer to sing a song with an eastern European vibe. It can stand out.

Is about the wedding vow of a young male. In Old Romanian folklore, the first vow is to nature as the bride. This means a vow to keep a pure heart and soul until you find the bride who is embodying the entire nature. The Sun and the Moon are the godparents, the stars and the sky is your witness and the entire nature is your family. You can find this in the famous ancient traditional song "Miorita-The Lonely Shephard" about the vow of a young unmarried lonely shepherd for the union with nature as a bride in a marriage when he realizes the eminence of his death. This is because we consider nature as a pure, always virgin, and wild maid being to who you have to vow when you ask for your acceptance to keep your heritage and take care of you in life and death. Because of this, they use the Shephard flute and the little Pan gnome as an embodiment of wildness spirit and the girls as "iele" - the wild forest young women spirits who can foolish you

If someone is interested in what this song is about: This song refers to the folk ballad "Miorița" which is about a Moldavian shepherd who is given a vision of his death as a testament. He sends a message to his family to say he married a princess, and explain why he left, to spare them the pain of his death. Traditionally, we have godparents at the wedding - so instead of them, he says the Sun and Moon (soarele şi luna) will be his godparents who will hold their crowns (in our tradition the groom and bride wear growns during the church cerimony). The flute in the song is a shepherd's flute. Dancing girls - ancestral dance of the forest fairies/goddesses (In Romanian - Iele). The "iele" are feminine mythical creatures in Romanian mythology. Often they are described as faeries (zâne in Romanian), with great seductive power over men, with magic skills and attributes similar to nymphs, naiads and dryads found in Greek mythology. It's a song full of symbolism, hidden meanings, an exceptional interpretation, a kind of enchantment from the magical world with goddesses and fantastical creatures.
