Cristhian Bahena Rivera stands trial in the 2018 murder of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts, 20.
Tibbetts went missing while out jogging in the small town of Brooklyn, Iowa. She was reported missing on July 19, 2019. Footage showed a dark-colored Chevy Malibu near her, according to authorities. That vehicle was seen “numerous times driving back and forth in the area.” Investigators claimed to link this to Bahena Rivera.
The defendant allegedly admitted to following Tibbetts in his vehicle, parking it, getting out, and running behind and alongside her.
In this account, Tibbetts grabbed her phone and threatened to call the police. Rivera allegedly claimed to have panicked, got angry, and “blocked” his memory, which happened when he got very upset. He asserted he did not remember what happened immediately after until he arrived at an intersection. He allegedly drove to a cornfield, saw there was an earpiece from headphones in his lap, and realized he put Tibbetts in his trunk. Bahena Rivera allegedly saw that she had blood on the side of her head.
The defendant said he carried her about 20 meters into the cornfield, and left her under corn leaves, according to investigators.
Bahena Rivera allegedly led law enforcement to her body. Details at the scene matched his story, officials said.
The defense attempted to bar the alleged confession from trial, saying it was coerced and Bahena Rivera was sleep deprived. The judge ultimately decided to admit any statement he made after his legitimate, second Miranda warning and before he was placed on an immigration detainer.

Are you this naive? Do you think the defense didn't consider that strategy already? If they didn't choose that route it's precisely because it wasn't plausible, because it never happened!!!

Am I the only one bothered about some of the personal questions these witnesses get asked? What does it matter how many children do they have or their private address for everyone to know and to get published on KZfaq...? I would not like it if it was me
@miklotube
@miklotube 3 жыл бұрын
Main purpose is to put the witness at ease by asking easy questions they can answer with little hesitation and strong confidence. Starting with heavy questions may result in delayed response and many other negatives that may affect the response. imho.
@curiouscat8624
@curiouscat8624 3 жыл бұрын
@@miklotube I understand. I just think they should be asking other kind of questions not about the age of their children, an address or other personal things. If I was a witness I would not like to be giving this private information away on a trial and later posted on KZfaq.

@@curiouscat8624 I agree but at the very least they should censor the addresses. Who knows what weirdo is watching these videos on KZfaq. If it were me I'd say I don't feel comfortable giving my address.

Can someone explain how did the interview go from "He stated he had seen a female runner 3 times and then go to his uncle's home.." to "Next morning, the interview continued in the vehicle, went to his house, and then end up in the cornfield, where the body is located.."??? There is a BIG GAP here!!
