MOLLY’S GAME is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.

This movie is extremely underrated!!!! It's a fast pace movie that never lags yet it's not hard to keep up so the 2hr 20min runtime flies by in the blink of an eye.

Agreed. I saw it when it came out, which was just after christmas, new years day and I thought it was brilliant. Way better than I expected. The only thing I can figure as to why it went under the radar was because of the time of the year it was released at. But hopefully it will gain the acclaim and attention it deserves over the years.

@@eoinbrennan3949 ah ok, I had no memory of when this movie was released so I think your theory about the timing is on the nose. I looked up what movies released the same time and I think it's fair to say this movie never ever stood a chance to be noticed. There was Star Wars, Jumanji (the first of the new remakes), Greatest Showman, Shape Of Water, and many more that were sucking up all the attention. Too bad they didn't push the release back until February over Valentine's because this would've been a perfect date night movie.

Just came back from the theatre and I gotta say this is very rich, powerful , insightful film which has that success story trailer promises, but also the film that is wrapped into really heartbreaking emotional blanket and which shows all the decadence of today's society and how the people are not what they seem to be even though it is kinda public secret by now. Chastain sells the role perfectly and she is not hard to look at, but nevertheless worthy of recognition and supporting cast including Idris Elba is simply phenomenal. It is kind of familiar approach that Wolf of Wall Street has done only in smaller scale and in the essence it once again showed the cruelty of life, expectations and growing up in this exhausting, greedy capitalistic jungle. It is a character study first and everything else later and while Molly's story feels long it is actually best look of behind the scenes lifestyle of the rich and famous. I guess sometimes we should be happy with what we got and not drool over some people's so called perfect existence. Check it out.
@leannemo7382
@leannemo7382 5 жыл бұрын
That "decadence of today's society" is a small percentage of American society. It's primarily in pockets around the US, most heavily concentrated on the coasts. For the average citizen, capitalism is no more exhausting than socialism to (to which Venezuelans attest). At least our efforts provide us reward (income); the correlation is generally direct and not distributed to others, as "we reap what we sow" and can spend or invest our money as we see fit. However, we pay many non-vital occupations far too much, whereas others deserve increases, like quality teachers - our country has fallen behind in global education stats, where we used to be in the Top Ten, if not #1. Famous actors, singers, and pro athletes earn way more than is necessary - they help to *suck the riches out of us* as a society (like many corporations), but *we seek entertainment like a drug fix...we are a guaranteed customer.* It's only more recently in history that entertainers are of ridiculous value; they were once low-to-moderately paid and not "worshipped" and followed with today's giddy interest by the general public - the very people making celebs filthy rich. Then there are celebs who rake in money for just being on display (e.g. Kardashians). While Fortune 500 millionaires are still out there, *the behemoth entertainment industry is a powerful monarchy and we all seem to bow and curtsey.*

A lot of people have this notion that rich people are great and intelligent when in fact most are sleazy and stupid especially in Hollywood
@ladybug4408
@ladybug4408 5 жыл бұрын
@@leannemo7382 I could not agree with you more! I've been saying this same thing for years it's such utter B.S. that actors get paid millions of dollars for something that most anyone can do!! How many singers and athletes do we see playing in movies, a lot! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to act yet they make so much more money than an actual rocket scientist. I wish more than anything that people would wake TF up and stop supporting stupid people and making them rich and famous, like reality idiots. The Kardashians, all of them are living in huge mansions and living luxurious lifestyles yet not a one of them is smarter than a first grader! This has got to change! Athletes who are doing nothing more than playing a game and being paid hundreds of millions of dollars. Why aren't other workers being paid high salaries who work for companies that make millions/billions?? Just because a sports franchise makes boo koos of money doesn't mean you have to pay your workers (the players) ungodly amounts of money, it makes no sense when you compare actors & athletes and their salaries to other people who work for giant companies but the other people are barely scraping by to live!

@CRPNW
@CRPNW 6 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with you. I don't like it when movie trailers show so much of the movie. And this trailer doesn't even represent the intent of the movie either. It shows a bunch of scenes that after you've watched it you're like "Damn, that made me like the movie less." Because the scenes they show are so pertinent to plot, but yet together the stream of them don't fall in line with one another. I was in the theater by myself tonight and *oh my God* it was amazing seeing this movie. I'm a free style skier and _loved_ the intro. I was talking out loud because no one was there and I had one of the most amazing experiences watching this film. It was absolutely outstanding. But this trailer.... not good. I wouldn't show it to someone to try to get them excited. Seriously though, this was one of the best films I've seen in quite some time.

I don't know. They either use some AI to make these decisions, and stopped thinking for themselves. Something Hollywood is famous for doing. Or there is this research claiming that you enjoy movies more if you know the ending first. So, perhaps they are attempting to "make us enjoy movies more". Or lastly, they're straight up morons. I personally think that it is the last option.

As someone who doesn't drink, gamble or do drugs, I watched this movie without ever wanting to get in on the action or the game; however, I have been in these ridiculous atmospheres, a time or two, and have seen a few things in my day. Anyway, Talk is cheap. And everyone loves a good show. A good breakdown while the ones who rigged the game of life's losing stakes walk away disappearing back into their perfect messed up lives. Mostly, this is a movie about the secrets we keep, even from ourselves. It is about fathers and daughters and winning and losing. This movie is about the mind and the soul of a Champion that people tried to break; over and over and over again. I do know a little something about that. An awful lot actually. Kind of my life story. My sincere thanks to Molly Bloom for sharing her story. Not because she got paid to, but because I can relate to some of it in a very private and personal way. We get up and we go on as best as we know how--this really isn't a movie about gambling at all. Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and more importantly Jessica Chastain make this memoir gleam; with pain beauty and heartbreak; softly glistening much like a dream dying slowly burning thru the night; a comet that doesn't know it's beautiful even when falling. Brave Onward Molly Bloom. You did what you did; you lived how you knew; the winner's way; the only way. Best wishes ~

Tobey Maguire must not be too pleased about the film coming out as Molly Bloom confirmed he was a rather nasty piece of work and the worst tipper even though he won the most. Cera must be playing him though his name has been changed - there is a scene in the trailer where he throws a $5 chip on the table which was probably his tip to Molly that night.

Finally! Been waiting for this one. Looks glossy but enthralling. This just makes me want more, aka to see the film in full. I feel like we're just wading the waters of Chastain's potential performance. I hope she wins her Oscar soon, BUT fair warning: watch out for Annette Bening (Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool), if that film garners a 2017 release date. She's overdue too, and that might be her ticket to the Oscar since she's been waiting much longer. I can't wait to see both films and determine for myself, as well as Dench's, McDormand's, Hawkins's, et al., since it seems like a good variety this year.

P.S. I know there's this whole Chastain vs. Lawrence thing. I loved both in 2012 (as well as Wallis in Beasts-OTSW), so I'm not into the feud. But I'm rofling at the J-Law stans who seem convinced that Mother! will not only net her a 5th nom, but a 2nd WIN. A WIN. HAAAHAHAHA. Bitchplease.

Disagree, there are more explanation than this. The trailer was more of telling Molly's poker career in an easy way, the whole movie was tell more deeper of her poker career

No. That is much hyped because of the actors (one or two much overrated) not the writing and directing and acting. Molly's Game is easily better. The Boiler Room is better than WOWStreet.
