Watching a bright young man reacting to an amazing piece of music which i have enjoyed for years ( i am 68 ) and seeing you getting into it and savoring every note, and obviously appreciating it at some deep level, for some reason lifts up my spirit. Thank you man for this!

Hello MollyBoyTV, You were wondering how they managed to produce such sounds, here's a clue: While playing around with his keyboards, Rick decided to amplify them through a Leslie rotating speaker. One particular note stood out very clearly. Dave called it "a strange resonance... kind of a feedback thing... Ping! A complete accident. We said 'That's great!' and we used it as the start of the piece."

Echoes is definitely a masterpiece. Although I love all versions of it I think I like the studio version best. No matter how many times I hear this song I feel the anticipation and suspense. I love how it picks you up and eases you into a wild ride, full of ups and downs and all arounds, and then sets you gently back down at the end. I'm very much enjoying your reactions. 💗🤘🏼

Great you reacted to that version. But there is one version that is superior to all. It was performed by Gilmour in Gdansk in 2006. It was the last time performed then because Wright died some time after that concert in 2006. And I think most people that experienced that Echoes version understand why Gilmour said that he can't perform Echoes withput Wright. Enjoy the Pink Floyd experience and have fun!

I would not say Gdansk is vastly superior it is just different, that is what I like about Pink Floyd's music it is complex and clever, but provides enough space to enable vastly different performances to be made without changing the fundamentals of ths songs. Both versions are great, but one thing Gdansk misses is Nick's subtle yet powerful drum work

You should also watch David Gilmour doing this live at Gdansk, with Richard Wright. They are the only two of the four at the performance, but the most important two from this particular track. And it features members of Pink Floyd's touring band in later years so it can be rightfully called Pink Floyd. There are three versions of this song that are equally epic for slightly different reasons. The studio version, this one, and David Gilmour live shortly before Richard Wright's passing. I actually like the latter the most because David and Richard had such perfect interplay between them in those last few minutes. David always called this song a "conversation between him and Richard" (yes with Roger's lyrics of course, and Nick's drumming is stunning in these early versions). But after that Gdansk performance, and Richard's passing, he retired this from ever performing it again.

To think, I was 11 when these geniuses were doing this! It makes me feel so small, like they say you feel when you see the Grand Canyon. Makes you wonder what Beethoven or Mozart would say? Or the ancient people who filled that theater? Just the idea is genius, and I can't believe all the massive equipment!!! Timeless, who can touch it even after all these decades? What minds, how much work and sweat to achieve perfection in all they have done!!! They take us outside the elementary things, into the universe and inside ourselves. Another great reaction ma!, Actually this Pompeii Concert was in 1972, the song is on their 1971 album "Meddle". I think "Echoes" takes up all of side 2 of the album. Ok the band members here in 1972 are the 4 guys who really made Pink Floyd into one of the Greatest Rock Bands in history! These 4 guys made up Pink Floyd from 1968 to 1985,... Dave Gilmour, joined the band in 1968, (guitar, vocals),... Roger Waters, co- founder of Floyd in 1964, (bass),... Rick Wright, co-founder, 1964, (keyboards, vocals),... and Nick Mason, co-founder, 1964, (drums). Roger Waters, one of the driving forces of PF, quit the band in 1985, the remaining 3 Pink Floyd members continued on as Pink Floyd until Rick Wrights death in 2008. So from 1985 till 2008 there were only 3 members of the band. The other singers and musicians you see onstage like at the 1994 Pulse Concert, (part of "The Division Bell" World Tour), are Pink Floyds touring band for that tour. It was a massive tour, 112 performances in 68 cities, in 17 countries! It was the largest tour of its kind, at the time. "Echoes" was a special song for Gilmour and Wright as they always shared the harmonized vocals, but sometimes they would switch off who was singing the higher part and the lower part of the harmonization. In 2006 they performed both parts of "Echoes" at a concert in Gdansk Poland, I believe it was their last performance of the song, as Rick Wright died two years later from cancer. Gilmour had said at the time that, without Rick, 'He would never play the song again',... Here's a link to that Gdansk "Echoes" performance, in 2006 Gilmour was 60 years old and Wright 62. Nick Mason didn't make the tour, so they had a stand in drummer they had used in the past. So there is only Gilmour and Wright from Pink Floyd. Check it out it's an historic version of this Masterpiece! .... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7OemKaanqzDhYU.html

You need to buy the movie “Pink Floyd At Pompeii”, it’s a serious mind fuck. If you know the story about Pompeii the movie is full of scenery from the ancient city that’s eerie, scary, and beautiful. The amphitheater that concert was performed in was built in the 70 AD and was able to hold 20,000. Despite it’s age, the ancient Romans obviously knew how to design a theatre so the acoustics were great, because the band said they couldn’t believe how excellent the sound was.

Much appreciation for reacting to a full version. The ending conversation between guitar and keys is awesome, I'm glsd you appreciated it too. I still love studio version more, but it's a very complicated song, and seeing it's played with just 4 musicians is something special. I'm 31 now, and I've heard it for the first time sround your age (I guess). Since that, I'm used to listen to it almost everyday, it's my morning routine song, so I've listened to it for several thousands of times and I can't stop 😂

Great reaction my boy!! This has LONG been my #1 Pink Floyd song, and one of my top versions as well - that raw sound & acoustics in the Pompeii amphitheatre is/was incredible! (Other favourite version is David Gilmour Live In Gdansk - it was the last performance of the song before Rick Wright's passing (keyboardist of this epic masterpiece), and thus it was the last time Dave has performed it since!) Masterpiece doesn't do this song justice, but it's the word we have! HIGHLY suggest Dogs, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (all parts), Welcome To The Machine, and pretty much ALL of Dark Side Of The Moon. Can't go wrong with Floyd!! Cheers!

I'm 60 years old and I'll suggest that one can appreciate Pink Floyd without weed, but one cannot appreciate weed without Pink Floyd. 😎

You showed a lot of respect for these four musicians. It is a MASTERPIECE - one of the greatest works of this millennia and the last millennia. On par with Bach Toccata and fugue in d minor - another piece of music that will send you off this planet it's so good! Both very different granted.

I saw this in a theater when it was released. BTW, KZfaq, Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man (Live at Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 1977, the long version. ) Cold empty stadium, worth a look.
