I think we should scrap the idea of new music mondays and just play a new band everyday on the channel. Today I listened to Slipknot - Wait and Bleed for the first time. These guys are insane. They're energy and stage presence is something else. I'll definitely be doing more Slipknot reactions in the future.
Here is my reaction to hearing Slipknot - Wait And Bleed for the first time. I hope you enjoy it.

When this album came out in 1999 my mate went to go buy the CD and since my house was the nearest place to the record shop where he could play it he came straight here and we listened to it in stunned silence. Now I've spent the last 22 years playing in metal bands. My life was absolutely sent down a different path due to hearing Slipknot at 14.

"i wonder out where you cant see" - the beginning lyric you got goosebumps to - shows the power of studio vocal layering with harmonies. Theres 2 vocal lines, both by Corey. Here how the end of one take carries longer (the harmony) and you hear him say "see" for longer(?). Along with in studio vocal enhancement (reverb) (not autotune). Yes, Corey is a good singer. He can rap but most dont see the rap coz of the hardness of the music. Corey, in the early days, did his thing. He eventually blew his throat out and couldnt keep up the intensity. He enlisted the help of renound vocal coach, Melissa Cross. She helped him learn how to sing properly. Cross now teaches how to "scream" but her background is opera. Now Corey can carry his vox live. He now has problems and cant keep doing all this intense stuff. Singing isnt his problem, his body is slowly breaking down. He was in the band 'Stone Sour' before Slipknot. Now Stone Sour are a big band. If you wana hear Corey being as raw as possible listen to 'Snuff' live. Corey and just an acoustic guitar. Moving and pure emotion. Peace 🤘🏻 Oh, and the mask thing was purely a gimmick. For a long time nobody knew who they were. First ever video they did without masks was 'Before i Forget' but they were still obscured. Masks can make famous peoples lives easier for obvious reasons but eventually we saw who they were.

Corey is in 3 bands, we know what he looks like, as we do the other members. The masks have changed over the decades, and I think now it's more of an affectation; very different from its original purpose. Still warms my heart that I got to see then in 2022. They put on one hell of a show, and yes, Nu Metal is awesome! Up and coming, hot on their heels is Sleep Token.

I was raised with Slipknot. These guys are in their 50's now and still doing music. In case ur wondering about the masks, they each have a barcode number and a signature style mask that changes every album. U found an old album video when all 9 were alive and in their energetic peak. I personally advise reviewing the song called "Finale" in their new album to see their changes.

Another fun and genuine reaction. I really need to see a Lamb of God reaction. I think the 512 video will be a good start but you're probably ready for anything of theirs. Machine Head's Davidian is a good one. They're another savage nu metal band. The double bass is right up your alley. As a rural midwestern American, the line "let freedom ring with a shotgun blast" gets me every time.

Technically nu-metal, but like Mudvayne, they really surpass that limited genre.

You could do a whole deep dive just with Slipknot. They have 7 studio albums. All of them are amazing!!! I’ve been listening to “The End, So Far” (7th album) on repeat lately.

Slipknot is from Des Moines, Iowa. This was their first album, the second is called Iowa. Literally both are still my favorite albums from them. The most raw. Also, I'm from Iowa, so this is like my home team.

I feel for you with the goosebumps, that happens to me sometimes and it can be super overwhelming. I don't know if you follow Nik Nocturnal, but he did a modern metal cover of some taylor swift song, that was literally 3 minutes of the most cripplingly intense goosebumps I've ever had. My skin was tired from contracting so hard for so long.

I was at Ozzfest in early 1999, Lakewood amphitheater in Atlanta Georgia, I don't think Slipknot had even released their first CD with Cory Taylor as their singer, but I heard this song from almost 1/4 mile away and made my way through the crowd just about the time it was ending, but they threw burned copies of their CD into the crowd, still have mine from 25 years ago.

You know I want more Slipknot. Pretty sure Spit it Out live at download will be fine. People do it all the time.

I love seeing a blossoming maggot. Some songs to check out that don't get the recognition they deserve. Diasterpiece, Everything Ends, Spiders, My Plauge.

You'd love Tallah man. They're a Slipknot regen on crack, and the vocals are immense. Modern nu-metal at it's finest.

In the line of modern Metal I recommend: -Jinjer "Teacher, teacher!" -Falling in Reverse "Watch the World burn." -Slaughter to Prevail "Demolisher". Good job!

Long response on the origin of the masks- one of the members (Shawn crahan) had an old clown mask laying around, and he wore it to band practice and he ended liking it so much he wore it during shows and (he said in an interview he liked it because he felt like people couldn’t see how much pain he was in) the other members asked him to take it off but clown said no, so the other members started wearing them too. We do see what they actually look like in real life, and they make new masks/update their masks for the release of each album. Also, the drummer is Joey Jordison who is no longer the drummer because he passed away in 2021, but he left slipknot before that because he had a medical condition that made it so he couldn’t play the drums anymore, but he was in muder dolls after he left slipknot, and you should definitely check them out. :)

that's crazy, when i first heard this song in middle school I also got goose bumps and during those time i was listening to rap and hip hop, i wasn't into rock or per say metal, and im from a ghetto city down south, but when slipknot surfaced, somehow it resonated with blacks lol, music has no color but back then rock music wasn't that quite popular amongst us, then slipknot popped up, mudvayne and numetal became a thing which cause us to research backwards to korn and grunge and many sub genre lol , quite buttery man
