Just making a correction, at the 14:20 mark I refer to Any Colour You Like as track nine instead of track eight by accident. I put a note in the video during editing but it got deleted somehow and doesn't appear in the final uploaded video.

You were right the first time. The song "Time" ends with the line "Thought I'd something more to say", which is immediately followed by the third verse of "Breathe" called "Breathe (Reprise)". In their final concert at Live 8 in 2005, the band performed all three verses together as one song. Depending on how you count, I hear ten "songs" but eleven tracks.

Oh, forgot to add...I saw Pink Floyd on their A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour at Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia in 1988. I had a floor seat, but it was in the back of the floor. Everyone stood up on their chair when the band came on and i couldnt see a thing as i was short and only 16. So i went to an upper level, and a nice older couple in the fromt row had an extra seat and let me sit with them. I had the most incredible view of the stage and circular screen and when the chorus of Us & Them hit each time, the colored lights pointing in at the center of the screen would swivel around to face the crowd and turn bright white lighting up EVERYTHING. It was simply breathtaking. Best concert I've ever seen. I'll never forget it.

For decades pink Floyd resisted the tracks being separated; each album was presented as a whole compendium, the balance only resolved when the whole album was listened to,in one go. It might be said that holds true for their entire catalog of albums. It’s certainly an epic and unique journey of English ‘progressive rock’ Spoken by a Scot, btw!

Not trying to knock your process of reactions, but Pink Floyd’s albums from Dark Side and after are really meant to be listened through. Track by track can interrupt the experience of the album. I just want to recommend listening to the whole album, then commenting on the record. If you don’t, that’s cool. Just listening to Pink Floyd is awesome. Glad to have you sit in the space that has molded many of us. The next albums you should listen to in order are Wish You Were Here, Animals, then The Wall. Atom Heart Mother and Saucerful of Secrets are fun ones to listen to, really shows their origin story before perfecting their sound on the album Meddle. @@mollyesanborn It's more a Roger Waters project than a group effort. Keyboardist Rick Wright had very little to do with it and that was half the Pink Floyd sound. Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best albums of all time. It stayed in the top 200 sales for more than a decade! Like most of Pink Floyd, you need to listen to and think of the album as a whole, not a collection of individual songs. Sit back in the dark with good headphones and lose yourself in a re-listen of the whole album. Mind "enhancers" are not necessary, the album is all you need. Listen to a mastered album or CD quality at least to pick up all the subtle details of the incredible production. The Wall and Wish You Were Here are also great to react to. They are less "connected" but still tell one story....

If you’re going to do any more Pink Floyd, one thing you have to know is that the song meanings and concepts are the main focus above all else. I know in your videos you cover the musical aspects of songs more so than the lyrical aspects of them, but with Pink Floyd, the meaning of the music comes before everything else. The only standout and noteworthy feature on the musical side of things is David Gilmour’s guitar playing. And even that is pretty heavily tied to the song meanings and the emotions being put forth. And it’s not that the music isn’t to be appreciated either, it’s just that the lyrical themes are very much the star of the show when it comes to Pink Floyd. Their classic string of albums-Darkside of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, (and by extension; The Final Cut)-are all concept albums. Pink Floyd has mastered _the concept album_ and have set the bar high for what a good concept album is to be like. Darkside of the Moon is widely considered the best concept album of all time. There’s also many people (like myself) who would give that title to The Wall. If you weren’t able to catch what exactly the concept of this album was, I would highly suggest looking it up. It’s really easy to come by since Pink Floyd’s concept albums have been thoroughly broken down and analyzed by many people. So there’s plenty of readily available album breakdowns where the albums concept is explained and accompanied by song-by-song explanations. And for their albums (Darkside of the Moon especially), for as fantastic and magical it is sonically, it makes it that much more mind blowing when you understand the concept and the meaning of what it is you’re hearing. In most cases I wouldn’t really sweat it, but in cases like The Nothing by Korn previously, and Pink Floyd in general currently, I think it’s necessary to stress that the meaning of the music is what’s most important here.

Totally agree with you about paying attention to the meaning of the songs. It's often overlooked by reactors because the music is so surprising and the lyrics often require multiple listens to reveal the layers of meaning. However, I have to disagree that Gilmore is the only "standout and noteworthy" musical features of Floyd. I love Gilmores playing, but Floyd was always their best when everyone was contributing equally. People hyper-focusing on Gilmore often seem to overlook the subtle and beautiful work from Mason and Wright which is integral to the sound of Pink Floyd. And to ignore or dismiss Waters contributions of bass playing, vocals, the arrangements and songwriting would be a real shame as it is every bit as masterfull as the other members of the band. It's the thing I love the most about bands of this calibre is that you can focus on any part of the music and find something enthralling.

Dark Side of the Moon is an absolute gem of an album, and it stands the test of time as a hallmark of the Prog Rock genre. Also, come on, Molly, a saxophone solo is really something you should have expected on this album. As they say, expect the unexpected! Another awesome video, can't wait to see what you are going to post next!

My memory of Dark Side of the Moon was going to the library (that was our internet 😝) and seeing it listed on the back cover in the Billboard charts usually near the bottom third week after week, month after month... Years? I was always obsessed to see my hard rock band take on the flavor of the month. But even as my fave bands shot up and left, or never made it, Dark Side sat in the charts for eternity. And I thought everyone who listened to them were sort of today's hipsters. Too cool to be cool? 🙃

I'm about 18 months older than this album, and I remember hearing somgs from it on the radio when i was 10 or so, but when i was 12 I bought the cassette, and listened to the whole thing. I can still see my room and remember how I felt listening to this album. I copied it to a blank cassette so i could keep a copy in my car. Ive probably purchased this album a dozen times over the years, as some would get worn out or scratched, or as the band put out different versions, etc. Simply put, its a perfect album to me. I hope you move on to other Floyd albums...especially the rest of what is considered "the big 4," Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. All EXCELLENT concept albums, and worth listening to a few hundred times. Lol

If you liked "Breathe", then you simply MUST listen to the MEDDLE album. Specifically, 'A Pillow Of Winds". It is their most interesting love song, which it has been said is also the most psychedelic of songs (Beato, 2023). It is such a cacophony of acoustic guitars that it will blow your mind and will show you where they got their ideas for the chimes you'll hear elsewhere in their later music! Also the following track, Fearless is great as well. But ECHOES is their stand out track off the same album!!!

Echoes, on the album Meddle, the album before DSOM. It's where they finally got it together after years of experimentation. Roger Waters described Echoes as the band finishing their apprenticeship, producing the masterpiece required to qualify and then saying "right lads, get your aprons on, we're going to do Dark Side of the Moon". Best listened to on a beach with massive speakers behind you, the Sun has just set, the crescent Moon about to set and the stars are starting to come out. Close your eyes get taken away by the music. When you open your eyes at the end the Moon has set and the Milky Way galaxy is overhead. Sit in silence with the waves lapping on the beach.

Most people don't just "Listen" to Pink Floyd, the "Experience" Pink Floyd. We all hear the musical changes but what did you experience while listening? Not a word about the song lyrics? What did those lyrics make you think about or feel? Connecting to the emotional side of yourself my be challenging but in the end, it will be rewarding and a opportunity to grow.

This isn't just a collection of great, innovative songs; the album encompasses an overarching theme of the human condition. Things that we all encounter in our lives: the struggle to get ahead, randomness of accidents, letting time slip away, money, conflicts, the illusion of choices (i.e. "fate"), and death. The heartbeat bookending the album indicates a loop, repeating for each generation.

Hello Molly, I don't want to diminish your thoughts but I want to reframe the album. The first side could be heard in terms of a life/lifetime. In the beginning and in stereotypical fashion, the doctor delivers a baby, slaps the child, and tells the child to "breathe." At the end of one's life, one may contemplate the afterlife, whether down below or up above. At birth and at death, there is sound but not necessarily words (crying, perhaps?). And in between the beginning and the end, what do we choose to do with all that time?

I agree with everyone's Pink Floyd album recommendations...but if you want an interesting look at their beginning, you should listen to their first album, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". @mollyesanborn yeah.. and I realize the extra tough thing about them is you kinda have to do their discography front to back, just by the nature of their output. That doesn't mean you have to do it one after another, though! You could do Second Stage Turbine Blade, then a couple of months later, move on to the next one with a bunch of different stuff in between. If you space it out right, you'll have content for years..and a fanbase pretty thirsty for your types of videos, might I add. I suggest watching some of JJMetalhead's videos (right here on KZfaq) about them. I think that might convince you

For me, the last true Pink Floyd album, "Division Bells" equaled the masterpiece quality of 'Dark Side of the Moon'. However, there is a track intentionally left off this album and saved as a final radio hit for "Endless River", which were outtakes from Division Bell and released many years later. This hit was called "Louder Than Words". Some Pink Floyd fans don't recognize this album because Roger Waters does not appear on it. To me, that was like saying, Pink Floyd's first album, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn' doesn't count because it featured Syd Barrett on guitar and vocals. Guitarist/singer/songwriter David Gilmour had not performed with Floyd, until their second album. You will also find several Pink Floyd early radio hits were left off their albums. Released only as 45 rpm singles, songs like "Julia Dream", "See Emily Play", "Paint Box" and "Arnold Layne". However, they can be found on a compilation album called 'Relics' or just check out these KZfaqs videos.

Certainly, one of the greatest Rock band of all time, and this album is one of the greatest Rock album of all time, some say THE greatest. I would agree but I'm biased, I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since 1973 when this album was released, I was 17 years old. Formed in London in 1964 they are certainly in the top 5 GOAT Rock bands ever, and like virtually every other Rock band to come out of England in the 1960s, they were a Blues based band. Progressive Rock is their sub-category. They even took their band name from two American Blues guitarists from the early to mid 1900s,... PINK Anderson, (1900-1974), and, FLOYD Council, (1911-1976). I've seen them twice live, and tickets to see them were especially hard to get, as they practically sold out every show they performed in 70s, 80s and 90s. "The Dark Side Of The Moon" album has sold over 55 million copies to date, one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album also holds the record for most weeks on Billboards Top 100 Albums of All Time list,... something like 962 weeks,... that's over 18 years on the list! Looking forward to more PF reactions. If you wanted to do single song reactions, in their entirety, PF1994 Pulse Concert would be a great place to choose from their ginormous catalog of songs. The quality of the video is quite exceptional, it has been re-mastered and re-edited, for an incredible Floyd experience, sonically and visually.

I'm gonna be one of "those" people and recommend you hit the run of this series: _Meddle_ -> _Dark Side of the Moon_ (DSotM) -> _Wish You Were Here_ -> _Animals_ -> _The Wall._ You are not only talking about one of the greatest runs of album cycles in history, but also the evolution of an entire genre and sound. Listening to those albums in that order in one sitting is a religious experience. Beyond that, you get varying recommendations based on what particular section of sound they were doing at that time. Some people prefer _Ummagumma_ to _Saucerful of Secrets_ and vice versa, but most people will highly agree with _Piper at the Gates of Dawn._
