So, the daughter is codependent to mother never taught her how to stand on her own two feet, leaves her, and then she’s now dependent on a man on a lower social economic class than what she grew up in. She’s lucky he’s nice enough not to abuse that situation.

High score for an original story. I don't think it would play out well in real life, though. The problem with manipulating people into a loving relationship is that the relationship has a way of falling apart as soon as the participants realize they're being manipulated. I recommend watching "The Fantasticks". It's a stage musical, arguably one of the best ever written, about parents (two fathers, actually) who spend years pretending to hate each other in hopes of using reverse psychology to make their children fall in love with each other. The plan succeeds at first, then backfires spectacularly before the children get back together in the end. The plot isn't identical to the one in this video, but it's along the same lines. I think the messages are best summed up by a line from one of the songs: "What at night seems oh, so scenic may be cynic by the day."
