Mid Autumn Festival is here! Can you believe that I’ve never bought my mom and dad mooncakes before! They've never tried them. Don’t even bother thinking about mango flavored mooncakes, or chocolate flavoured mooncakes; they haven’t even tried the traditional ones.
A few weeks ago I sent them a big box of food, and inside were two tins of mooncakes. The fillings? Lotus paste and salted egg, red bean paste, and of course my favourite, FIVE KERNEL! I can’t figure out why so many people say that they don’t like Five Kernel mooncakes. Obviously, Five Kernel is the best.
Today’s video is of course about sharing Chinese culture, and letting my mom and dad experience Mid Autumn Festival; this will be their first time celebrating. But it’s also kind of an experiment, because I want to find out whether I’m the only one that thinks Fiver Kernel is absolutely bloody lovey.

月饼还是蛮甜蛮油的，和茶或是咖啡一起吃很搭配。我喜欢五仁月饼， 我父母也很喜欢。

Black Chinese tea （普洱茶）goes well with traditional 🌕 moon cakes 🥮 or any kind of black tea. The hot tea will melt away the sweetness, and it will balance it well👍 . Glass of milk 🥛 is a no no 🙅🏻♀️traditionally.

The classic style to enjoy a Moon cake is to slice it into 8 pieces or in modern time 4 pieces and shared among family members or friends. We are supposed to eat lots of fruits especially Chinese grapefruit, permission and starfruit (subconsciously balancing the heaviness of the Moon cake). Drinking a cup of tea certainly compliment Moon cake. Many youngsters now do eat like the way you and your parents do, I think your parents are in amazing health being able to devour several Moon cakes like that in one take. "Happy Moon Chasing"!

中秋节快乐！It always sparks joy to see Stu, Hanmeimei, and Bobu eating together with that lovely music in the background. But I can't believe that Stu didn't suggest drinking tea along with eating mooncakes! It really helps resolving the sweetness and digesting as well :) Quite a surprise that the family all love Wuren! Haha. I also recommend pork mooncakes 鲜肉月饼, a type of mooncakes that are popular in Shanghai/Suzhou area. You need to bake it before eating. Maybe this could be something for them to try next year :) Thank you for another lovely video!

Thanks for your parents showing us the mid autumn festival, the” red bean paste “ maybe were black sugar instead of red bean. I just say maybe , because I saw the color was strange. Anyway happy moon cake festival. Very Lovely parents, suggest next year try the “ice skin moon cake “, it is not too sweet but very tasty, a little bit expensive but deserves try to buy two of them .

那是因为小时候的伍仁月饼很硬很干很不好吃，现在的伍仁月饼不知是不是因为核桃量占比大变得比较松软比较好咬口感好了很多我非常喜欢吃

Tell your parents that only eat up to half a day. Mooncakes contain a lot of sugar and oil. Although they are delicious, it is not recommended to eat too much at a time.

Additional to what you said, you also supposed to sip strong tea while enjoying the Moon Cake. The tartiness of tea is a great complement to the sweetness of the cake.

Absolutely lovely video. 中秋节快乐。 I think the main reason why most people say they don't like wuren mooncakes and call them "dark magic food" is because the recipe for it in the earlier days was quite different from what it is now. It used to consist of many nuts along with big chunks of hard crystalized sugar and artificially colored red/green dried winter melon, which makes it incredibly dry, challenging for the teeth and not really easy for the eye(contrary to the intention of the food colouring). Recently the recipe has been improved, and it's among my favorite flavors as well.
