My mom actually picked my new name.. I asked her the same question and she said "Elliot" and I asked her I I could be referred to as such. And she asked if she could help me find a spelling for it that I like. And my dad chose my Middle name. So my name is Elliotte Rose [REDACTED LAST NAME]

People can legally change their names and that has never been a social issue. However, when people hear that you say you dont identify with the old name, there will be people that lose their minds. It may shock those people, but you are allowed to change your ideology and perspectives on things without losing your sense of self. Especially if the thing you want to change is for the well being of the people around you.

I actually did this indirectly. I asked my mom what my name would be as a boy, she said “Chance” because I was her last chance to have a kid. I went by chance for four years before she found out, (I never told her directly but I didn’t hide it once I became an adult), she was conflicted for a long time because it turned out that was the name she was going to give to her son that was a stillborn two years before I was born. I found peace in myself now, I go by Chance for everyone I meet online or briefly in person, but anyone I know calls me by my birth name. I like it this way, and it causes less confusion.

Something similar happened with me! I asked my mom what name she had picked out had I been born a boy, more-so out of curiosity at the time, she responded “Avery”, which I thought was more gender-neutral sounding than my birth name, and I ended up using Avery as a way of also representing that I’m not the same person I used to be. I went through a lot of difficult events and confusion, and my mom helping me discover myself again as Avery, someone who’s worked very hard to improve themself as an individual and not let their hardships hold them back. Name changes aren’t always related to gender or sexuality, but finding yourself, and living with it. I do admire that my old name was beautiful, and my mother did a great job initially choosing it, but I’m Avery now, and I’ve never been more comfortable in my own skin 😊

I've got a thought, what if the first name they thought up was what decided your gender and not the birth... like they picked a boy name first, but you were born with 2 x chromosomes so you had a different name. But your gender is male, and you preferred the name picked first. Would be cool, but at the same time... its probably not likely either way. Would be cool if transness was that predictable though, would make the process so much smoother and easier I would think.

When I was still in my mom’s belly, she had two names picked out, my deadname if I was a girl, and Samuel if I was a boy. Sky and Skylar stuck the longest. I also had my dance teacher call me Barbie at one point when I was really young. I nearly died when she told me this in front of the class when I was in high school, but now I laugh so hard at it 😂😂 Oh, and part of it is because I realized what logic I was functioning with as a child : she asked if people had a preferred name to be called, as in did they have a preferred nickname. Jordan is one of those names that could go for any gender identity. My brother in law’s name was Jason Jordan and then they gave my niece the same middle name. Abigail Jordan. When we adopted my two daughters from foster care they decided they wanted to have new first names too, not just change their last names. We told them they could pick anything (reasonably) but they both wanted us to help them choose. My youngest got the name I would’ve given a bio daughter if I’d had one. London. Love this. Although tbh if my daughter ever decides her current name or gender aren’t right for her anymore, I’d rather she (he/they/whatever fits) pick a different name because the boy name we’d have used was really through a sense of family obligation and I’m kind of glad it wasn’t needed. Although if my kid really wanted it, I’d support that-but do not feel kid should *have* to carry that obligation. (Which I know isn’t what this vid is implying! I love that both mom and kid come to a place to support each other’s feelings here.)

She didn't suspect anything since I often ask her out of pocket stuff from the past. She said Phillip which will hopefully be my legal middle and I picked the first name myself. @millenniumsystem1168 Ай бұрын
@@jessicahay9305oh gods Cherry would have been so pretty and Balu is just darling if you ask me. We have a naming tradition in my family too, but mainly for first born boys. My mom went against that for my brother Donovan because my older sister took the initials for that tradition. It was going to be Thomas Johnathan, but it is Tera Jean. I named my son James Thomas. (It’s grandfather son names, my grandpa was Thomas, my dad is a James) After that, it’s usually based on name meaning. My birthname is Mackenzie Rae. which was for the “Born of fire” aspect for Mackenzie to mean “Ray of Sunshine” I changed it to Kiera Rae, and it means Ray of Shadows, as Kiera means “Little Dark Child” My little brother Donovan was Donovan Andrew (now Wayne as he liked batman when he was adopted out of family for some extremely personal reasons) but Donovan Andrew means “Dark Haired, Manly Chieftain” he ended up being very headstrong and he definitely has dark ass hair. My youngest sibling uses two names, but they were born as Serenity Jade, which means “Peaceful Green” they now switch between that and Oliver Kenji meaning “Sturdy, Healthy Olive Tree” (which is funny as they didn’t even intend that lol. But “to extend an olive branch” means to offer aid and its a symbol of peace, Serenity means peace. Jade is a green stone usually close in color to the color of green olives. Kenji means healthy and sturdy, and in crystal community’s Jades are used in wealth and good fortune spells. Which could he used for manifestation of healthy body within a spell of that variety) I think picking names based on how well you like them, as well as what the name means, is always a good place to start. Because you can look up names meaning anything, I like the sea, so the name Kai would probably be one I would like to use for myself (I actually did at one point :3) and for transpeople, or those wanting a better fitting name, this is a good place to start :)

I wish i could do this, but i asked my mom this question, and it turns out that if i had been born a boy, my name would have been Matthias. So when my baby brother was born a boy, guess what his name was? So now i have to go through the whole process of picking a new name, which is ESPECIALLY annoying for the same reason my parents re-used the name. My dad is SUCH A HARSH CRITIC! I've already gone through like a hundred names, and none of them me and both my parents agree to like 😭

I have a friend who came out as trans. Growing up, they were Alison or Ally. During college, I started calling him Al. He came out later as trans. I think it suits him, so I kind of hope he keeps it. Maybe he will end up changing it in the future, in which case, I will get used to whatever he chooses 😊 Until then I will continue to call him Al and Alberto, and one of our other friends called him Albus

My genderfluid eldest keeps getting excited about names I think are just awful in a "I was 14 when I picked this name" way. Partially I know it's because I adore their birth name, it has meaning 6 layers deep for us, and it's not even especially femme and has a conveniently neutral nickname readily available (which is what they use for school and such where having a revolving door of names you're trying out is impractical). But I know the name thing is really important for kids under the trans umbrella so I have reluctantly resigned myself to losing their beautiful name, but they're also sensible enough to have readily agreed to not doing anything legal until they're 18, so hopefully their taste in names will have matured and solidified by then. (A legal name change will probably be their big expensive 18th birthday gift). The boy name they would have had is both much tio traditionally masc for their taste as well as later used for their younger brother so it's not available.

When I came out as trans at first my mom was supportive, but was hurt when I no longer wanted to go by the deadname she picked. When I eventually picked my own name she was upset, saying that she should get to have a say in my name since she got to pick my first one, and it was tense for a bit, but with time I made her understand and now my mom is fully supportive of my new name and identity and is even coming with me to my appointment to start HRT next month.

My chosen name was picked out for me by a trans friend who couldn’t remember the deadname, so called me the first thing she remembered about me-Ravioli! We were in choir class and had to introduce ourselves with a food and I had eaten a lot of ravioli that summer (autism) and introduced myself with ravioli! That friend introduced me as Ravioli (after getting an okay lol) and then I started doing it and I haven’t stopped yet! Most people at school know me as Ravioli/Rav!!

I really wish my family (mainly parents) would do this, I’ve been going by a preferred name for almost 4 years now and my parents have known that for 2 and they outright refuse to call me what I want to be called and whenever I ask they go ‘Because It’s the name we gave you!’ or whenever I correct them they ignore me, I’ve told them why I wanna go by zenus and It’s for personal reasons but they never seem to respect it. and all my life they claim to ‘respect any decision I make’ It’s also upsetting with my sister, she calls me by my preferred name when our parents aren’t around but when they are she calls me by my birth name and she goes on how they gave her the death glare whenever she would try and call me zenus. I have NO idea on how I’m gonna get them to call me zenus (I know It’s an odd name but it is a real name) I have asked my mum what she was gonna call me if I was a girl which was ‘pearl’ (like the name but wouldn’t wanna go by it) as for boy I would’ve had the names like ‘logan’, ‘william’ etc and honestly I would’ve taken any of those but my molester dad just had to step in and name me. sorry for the rant just need advice on how I can make them understand and support my identity.
