I had to go through this with my ex’s parents. They acted like they accepted me, but then the last few months before they forced him to break up with me, they started discriminating me because of my disability. Saying stuff like I won’t be able to have kids and that people with disabilities can’t marry each other which is BS. Yes they can. They just said that because they didn’t like me being with their son who has autism and I may very well be an undiagnosed autistic. I have mild CP which doesn’t limit me in ANY way. It’s just a slight inconvenience. His dad and grandma acted like they knew how my disability affects me PERSONALLY like I was their own kid and that I’m intellectually disabled which isn’t true. I’m very happy I don’t have to deal with their freaking damn shit anymore. Thank you, Illumeably for advocating for those in this situation.

He tried to get to them to understand what a great and loving person I was, but they didn’t listen to him. It even got to the point where they told him, if you don’t break up with her RIGHT NOW, you’re not going back to college. (I live where the university is at. I go there too.) From someone who has a disabled mother things like this makes my heart how bad society is in the way they think, disabled people, or an inconvenience, or a burden to the world. If you are not the ones, taking care of them why they would be a problem or burden. I don’t say disability, It’s just a different ability that they hold them. In which makes them very special and unique❤

The other day, I had to borrow a wheelchair to move around the mall to do Christmas shopping as I had major knee surgery very recently so walking around on crutches wasn't going to be ideal. I was shocked to see the amount of people who stared at me either with a mean/disgusted look on their faces or a weird pitiful kind of look. I felt really uncomfortable wheeling around at the mall and it's opened my eyes on some of the things disabled people deal with daily.

You're still a valuable person disabled or not. A disability is just a disability, but life is good anyway, so make the best of what you have, and do not let being disabled stop you from achieving your dreams and your goals. Be positive and keep moving forward. And show the world that you can do it. And do not listen to any negativity from others who are trying to bring you down!!! This is a SOB to deal with... I'm 57, profoundly deaf all my life, never married nor had children, and I fled America over 5 years ago because of people like her - potential employers who didn't believe that I could do a job I applied or interviewed for... A person who couldn't see the person I am, attracted by looks and mannerisms rather than consciousness. I voted with my feet. They will never have a penny from me, and I will not support them. If an Indian General and a US General came to me and said, "Stephanie... I'm sorry, but we have a war to fight. We need you in service to defend our country," I'd pick the Indian uniform every time, in spite of the problems we have here and the lack of a social net for people with disabilities.

I don't waste my time hanging around "Debbie Downers" like that. I'll accept someone if they accept me. Otherwise, I say: "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" I am done with taking the problems of ableists on board. I did that for too long until I decided I'd had enough and made some changes in my life.

everyone need respect and love even if they don't see eye to eye if we are all they same that would be boring. However that doesn't mean we can't respect another person for how they believe or feel in fact they might be able to explain things so we understand who knows you might change your belief even if you don't you understand them and who they are as a person. So please everyone respect one another and help bring peace to earth don't wish for it be the force of change to actively bring it. Happy Holidays one and all lets start with love and respect

Not quite, you should still trust other people. The secret is to look for flags. Be cautious about what people are telling you what to do. They can help you get out of a tough situation where you may not be able too. And you’d want someone to trust you wouldn’t you? Times like those you just gotta trust your instincts

I don't know what it's like to be disabled, but I know what it's like to be looked down upon. Because I was called half a man and I was forced to take an iq test to prove that I could have a regular job. But I didn't let that stop me, I kept fighting. I proved that I could have a normal job and I have that today. And you can do the same, even if people look down on you and say you are weak. Show them you are strong. Never give up, you can do it.
