I like the smell of baby oil and use it to make my papers. The oiled papers are placed by a sunny window and are turned over every few days until dried. I get great results.

Hi Kelly I have maid these papers over the years & have found that using oil on them you never get the smell out of then in my opinion you work from the corners & use bee wax that is melted works great & you don’t get many rips in it .best peter Scotland hope ya well happy sunny days xx

Thank you for teaching Momagami. I recently used this method to make fabric with gelli prints. It didn't come out as dark since it was lighter colours.

I like to do stacked collages and these would look great peeking out from the lower layers. Also I think stitched onto a fabric scrap to make safety pin flags. So many possibilities.

Thank you for the great tutorial. I gave it a try today without using any oil. It worked just fine. I did a lot of simple folding before I started the crumpling. It was great exercise for my aching hands. I only got one small pinhole in the paper. Love it! Thanks!

I printed off a papyrus manuscript page from the 1st century, straight onto high quality paper & used baby oil on my hands to create the most beautiful aged effect. But the effect from some of these gloss pages looks cool.

This is such an interesting technique. I particularly like the idea of the book cover with layered pieces. I noticed in the comments that there is some concern about the oil going rancid. Maybe mineral oil would be a good option since it doesn’t get rancid. Thank you, Kelly, for sharing your art techniques.

Hi from Australia Kelly. I love your channel and watch most of, if not all of your videos 😊 I watched this one because I had tried momigami a while back and wanted to see your take on it. I couldn’t remember using anything oily on my first (and only) attempt. So after watching this video I went and tried another paper without any oil and it works fine for my needs. It may take longer, and in your case the oils may strengthen the ‘fabric’ but I just thought I’d mention it here 😊 I look forward to your next video/s. Regards, Angie

This sounds funny but I only had Vicks and Vaseline available at hand one day so used these on separate pages and it worked superbly! Will inside my Vaseline with a drop of essential oil for fragrance next time and use that. I infused over the minutes, quite a decent amount of the Vicks or Vaseline and the papers were so soft and workable that i could crunch, knead and even took like a piece of clay. The colors were deep and vibrant!

I would love to see a country collage scene made from these papers as I think it would be stunning!❤

yOU have encouraged me to get up and try new ways to make pages and papers for my journal. I am in the middle of a journal for a beach trip and I think this is going to be a great background for some of my drawings as a framework. it will give my drawings the feeling of being found in say a message in a bottle since my page looks like or is cut to be a bottle that will open to find hidden happenings on our adventures and to write little notes to our children about what my husband I did and how those things reminded us of the time we spent with them at the beach and I will be adding some of the pictures of them as children on the beach. I am going to print the pictures on paper and laminate them so the kids will have pictures of all of us and the joy they bring to us. That is how I want their childhood and our family and the time we had in the past. not that we are expecting anything or that our health is in question but I know I wont be here forever. Thank the universe I cant take anymore of these 12 yr election cycles and all the division and depression of this time in my life I dont want them to even think about the now when they get these books.

I have made similar papers using this technique and I like the results a lot. But one problem I have when using them in a journal is that the oil stains the papers underneath. Any suggestions?

Thank you! Beautiful papers! With the parchment paper, would it work if the paper is stained\dyed before the oil is applied? Also, for gel printing, would the acrylic paint be repelled if it is applied on top of the oiled paper?

Since the paper becomes infused with oil during this process, does the paper remain “sticky” or become rancid?

Hello Kelly, thank you so much for sharing this with us 💕 your tips are so useful! I tried folding non-glossy, vintage book pages of the 1960's without using oil or similar. It worked beautifully. Do you think it will stay beautiful without using the additives you named?

I'm confused about where you'd use this paper as it seems like the oil in the mamogami would eventually leave oil stain on my art journal page, or gradually have an oil spot seep all through the pages of my journal as it sits closed up for months after its all done. Should this be sealed before putting into my junk journal?

If so, would mineral oil be a suitable substitute? 2) Will the oil (whatever kind) leach out if used for scrapbooking, art journals, etc? If so, would mod podge or similar sealer medium prevent that? I’m going to try this to make backgrounds for Artist Trading cards. Have you tried using sandpaper on the gloss pages first like you did in your previous video? I’m thinking that if you broke the surface a bit the hand lotion might work. I might try it. It may though make more holes in the paper.

How long does it take for them to “dry” after you’ve oiled them up?

Does the oil dissipate? I like what you showed us but I wonder if the oil will leach out when the paper is used. Would oil have been used traditionally? I think it could be a problem for the longevity and compatibility when using a mix of materials including water based paint.

Does the oil create a resist for things like acrylic paint, ink and other media?

1 question though will the oil sour and have an odor over time? my biggest concern

I just made a page from a magazine cover but my page was a heavy matte, not glossy. It turned out nice but it's very oily. Does that oil dissipate?

Mine still covers my fingers in oil every time I touch it, altho it's very dry it's still coats your fingers in oil when U touch it. Surely that's not righth no?

Like the look. There is a risk that your papers will get rancid by time, use mineral oil instead. I hate to get oil on my fingers so I don’t use any, I paint my own papers. I have video on my channel on the way I do it,
