@@mommymilestones Buddy has one running a deep woods NY Adirondack mountain hunting camp aka, bug out location. Have pick-up truck fuel tank, transferring to 275 gal oil tank. Fuel oil delivery truck cannot access road. We power flood lights, refrigerator, well pump and air conditioner etc. Buddy ex USN engine man, worked on 2-71's late 70's early 80's, Perry Class ships. PS: if hearing repetitious & simultaneous EBS [emergency broadcast system] alerts, prepare to hunker down. Warm up to SHTF [EBS] will start via fictitious Amber alerts, then comes the Wham-bam. Your starting procedure is exactly like mine with a rod..what mods did you like? I still have the multiple filter set up...better to change out to spin ons...? Does the engine governor control the output voltage..?

The engine governor controls the power frequency. The output voltage is controlled by the exciter, through a voltage regulator inside the control box on the side, if I'm not mistaken.

You should check the rpm (by putting a hz meter on it). Sounds to me to be running to fast-and yes I know Detroit 2 strokes inside and out. My first truck was a 8V-92TA and now have a bus with a 8V-71 turbo'd and air to air intercooled.

Where is there more oil---- inside or outside of a Detroit?

If you don't like your electric bill, you probably won't like the fuel bill for the Detroit. It is a great engine, and will run forever, but newer 4 cycles with electronic injection are much easier on the fuel.

@@mommymilestones I am aware you are also in the fuel business, but the fuel has a cost. Not trying to give you a hard time, just was observing that fuel efficiency is not a Detroit's strong point.

@@scottnunya1 These things will run on recycled vegetable oil from restaurants. They'll give it to you for free or even pay you to take it, if you play your cards right. It just needs to be filtered and heated to a liquid state. It can also be used to make biodiesel, and then no heat is required, except when it gets cold outside.

@Scott nunya, why this comment? He has the thing, knows the deal with GM Diesels, and you're suggesting he go with EFI. What's your point?

@@gckshea I clearly stated that the EFI's "are much easier on the fuel" than the Detroit 2 cycles. She said she was considering going off-grid, using the Detroit light plant. Running it 24/7 will cost more in fuel than other engine types, probably truer now with the higher fuel prices than when I commented a year ago.

Your local freightliner dealer. They own Detriot diesel now. I rebuilt a 2-71 genset about 15 years ago and had most of the parts from the dealer the next day. i waited a week for the pistons and sleeves.
