I agree that a barn for storing your kiln dried lumber would be a good use for the Cedar Nathan because, to me, you should have such a facility to keep this lumber in top notch condition. Chers, Don from South Aust.

Hey Nathan, here is a thought, instead of getting a bigger cart for your blade setter; mill/cut some wood and lay and secure the wood on top of the cart. Overlap the wood on the top of the cart a couple of inches on every side, making a larger work area to spread out and lay out the the BMT 200/250 setter. It would save you a couple of bucks unless you want a new/bigger cart.

Have you ever tried hooking the hydraulic connectors together on attachments when you are not using them? They keep cleaner & also equalise the pressure in the attachment, which makes it easier to connect them to the machine. The only other problem you may have, is if your machine has line pressure....... however, I fix that with my tractors by leaving the key on engine off & move the joy stick through all of its functions. Not sure how to do it on Mr Kato though.... 🙂 Love your work, cheers from Australia.

I would assume bourbon barrels are why White Oak is in such high demand. Bourbon became incredibly popular, so to keep up with demand, most distilleries upped production and in turn need more white oak for barrels. Now, barrels are being produced way faster than that species can grow

Veneer grade is not for sawing Nathan. It is spun and shaved into thin layers to make plywood out of. Cabinet grade plywood is about one sixteenth inch thick of the face layers and top grade like A/A or A/B with lesser quality in the middle plies. You can saw it into boards but why would you at that price? One grade below is for sawing and making cabinet wood. If you are making 4x10 sheets of plywood with the grain going the 10 foot direction you use a ten foot log, but most is 4x8 so 8 foot logs is most common for veneer. Imagine the machine that can peal thin layers off that log as it spins and a cutting edge as long as the log. Lot of HP running that machine. Making five or six ply plywood without voids. Stuff costs more than gold. I use to work with a lot of Birch or Oak plywood in my day fifty years ago and it cost an arm and a leg back then.

@markpashia7067
@markpashia7067 6 ай бұрын
Yup, back then nearly all cabinet grade plywood came out of Canada for some reason. And you paid dearly for the finished plywood. That is what veneer grade is used for. Usually five or six layers of veneer glued up into plywood with the two face layers being the species for the plywood. The inner plies can be another species as long as they are tight grain and flaw free as well since any knot has to be cut out and patched in every layer. $5 almost seems cheap today.

Nathan, for your BMT200/250 - instead of getting another cart, why not use short lengths of 2x4 and raise the unit about 2 inches. That should give you the clearance under the controls to slide the unit over so that it fully rests on the cart. Also, please lift with your legs, not your back.

Good morning Nathan from Sydney Australia. Looking at the size of your Saw tooth setter and the cart you have it sitting on, all you need to do is cut a slab or plywood piece to the size you need and screw or bolt it to the cart you have. Not much of a cantilever and you don’t have to buy a new cart. Just a thought to think about.

Hey Nathan, I sawed up some cookies this summer to have for winter projects. I have a lot of cracks showing up in them. My question is, should I have used anchor seal on each one of the cookies after they came off of the mill? Yes the tree was cut down about a month before it went on the sawmill. Should I let the logs sit longer and dry out before cutting the cookies? Thanks, from West Michigan.

S3S… does make sense. Wood worker will joint the flat side and then rip to width on the table saw. So we are just cutting off the fourth side so why pay someone else to do it.
