Dear Fr Warner, thank you for giving us a background of the period when Christians were considered heretics by the Jews & how Matthew 'brilliantly' put together Jesus' teachings in the Beatitudes. They are a way of life - a path to true happiness. Jesus lived by these values so he encourages us to live our lives in the same way. Ultimately the Beatitudes help us to understand the blessings God has in store for us & what it means to be a follower of Jesus. We learn so many details in your teaching. The Beatitudes well illustrate why Christians are always out of step with the mainstream society. As Jesus puts it, "For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matt 7:14). Societies around the world promote and laud the accumulation of wealth, power and fame. Followers of Jesus are focused on loving God and their neighbor as themselves, for we serve God by loving and serving our neighbor, and strive to forsake pride for humility because they know "There is only one who is good" (Matt: 19:17) and that one is God. In all this, we must always remember that Jesus said he came to serve, NOT to be served (Matt 20:28). Living the Beatitudes is the road that leads to life.

James 2:12,13 Therefore, 8:31 speak and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom.There will be justice without mercy for those who have not shown mercy, whereas mercy has nothing to fear of judgement.
