Um, the good doctor did reference Kuyper and Calvin; along with Rachel Held Evans, Barbara Brown Taylor is a good *contemporary* source. Both are well within the boundaries of reformed faith. Unless those boundaries were fixed centuries ago, written in stone, never reforming . . .

@@lizsalomons920 The loving thing is to express to everyone the need to repent and believe the gospel . Unfortunately there are some here who don’t seem to believe the repentance part.

The only ones in favor have appealed to Scripture and the Covenantal nature of God. Those who do not appeal to the emotion of self-defined experience. The issue in question is not the quality or nature of human opinion. Let that be a question for psychology. But our doctrinal standard is a question of God’s Word, that stands above psychology. It is Truth.

"Discrimination is good." You have warped this into something that does not channel God's love. DISCERNMENT is good, discrimination is not. Shame on you. "Some people are not qualified to be office bearers in the CRC." You hijacked control of who gets to be office bearers, and you justify it with an interpretation you think is right, but IS NOT settled or agreed upon by anyone but you. Shame on you.

You are getting stuck on words that you don't like due to some personal hangup. Have you ever read Titus 1? 1 Tim 3? There are literally about a dozen discriminators listed, i.e., characteristics that an Elder (office bearer) can "not" have. Such people are, indeed, are not qualified to be office bearers. Why do you want to soften what St Paul himself says? That's not discernment. It's obfuscation.
