shade to those judging others for trying to make a couple bucks in this capitalistic hellhole.

Absolutely! I’m happy for people I watch when they get monetised and can’t wait for it to be my turn!

Love this. I have finally paid off some long standing debt in part because of monetizing. It’s been a big blessing to me.

Hard agree, you hit the nail on the head when you say KZfaq is going to monitise your videos anyway. I montised 25 days ago and have made $18 so far and I've independently made the choice to go back and study and that $18 gets me something, makes it easier for me. I bet that the people again monitisation are wealthy, and have never had money stress.

Yeah, I think that people who condemn those for choosing to monetize have wealth and do not understand how making that extra could genuinely help someone out. Congrats on the monetization!

I agree with your thoughts on monetization. I'm totally fine with a Booktuber choosing not to monetize because they are just doing it as a hobby, but I also don't like the idea of demeaning anyone for monetizing or not monetizing. We should all be able to make our own decisions about our channels because it is our channel and we do all the work for that channel.
@WellTraveledBooks
@WellTraveledBooks Жыл бұрын
Yes yes yes! People do not have to monetize, but shame on you if you rag on others who do monetize. Your channel, your work, your choice. Do what you want!

100% agree! Anyone who is adamently against monetization is usually very privileged and have this idea that "elite" things should not have the stain of money touching it is delusional. Money and capitalism touches everything, we all make different choices under capitalism's yoke, but getting upset about a monetized youtube channel is nowhere near the level of concern you see by poking around...
@WellTraveledBooks

So privileged. Get that silver spoon out of your mouth please! I dislike this so much, exactly like how you said. 'Elite' things should be 'above' other things? What? Get out. What a judgemental and unrealistic opinion.

I’m all for monetization and getting paid for the content you create. I do get upset up HUGE creators doing cash grabs. Especially when they have young audiences or when we’re all in an economic downturn, cost of living crisis, whatever you want to call it.
@WellTraveledBooks
@WellTraveledBooks Жыл бұрын
Yes, I fully agree with that. I think the rise in people scamming their audiences, with things like NFTs and such, is not great at all. And people can be very tone deaf with their money. But I won't shame someone for simply monetizing their videos. Sponsorships etc. are a different beast.

This is how I see it too! Especially medium-small creators who are barely making pennies on a video vs someone making $1,000s a month and promoting things without thinking just because they see dollar signs.

What you said about being “in this system” makes a lot of sense. KZfaq puts ads on videos anyways, don’t they? So at that point the revenue can go to Google, or it can go to the creator, but my understanding is that the ads will be there either way. The only way out is to host your videos elsewhere, but would the subscribers follow suit?
@WellTraveledBooks
@WellTraveledBooks Жыл бұрын
Yes! So true. I would be curious to see if someone decided to actually opt out by moving to their own platform, if they would get a lot of people following them - I don't feel like it because part of the appeal of youtube is that all the creators are in one place and it's convenient to sub to everyone at once. But I could be wrong

I actually dont think that this discussion is recent. I remember this "controversy" even 10 years ago when booktube was getting started and book blogs were the norm. People not only were against mometizing things but also against sponsorships and even getting books for free 😂 I mean... reading is a hobby. Most people pay for their hobbies instead of getting paid. But most people also experience their hobbies for themselves and do not make free content / entertainment for others out of it. And marketing for products (books). Sooooo.. what is the issue with getting paid for that? It is not like you can get rich with it 😂😂
@WellTraveledBooks
@WellTraveledBooks Жыл бұрын
Very true! It is a convo that has been going around on and off for years but more recently became a big talking point again cause of a super condescending (imo) video and really fired me up this time lol. And so true! Most people do not make free content for others in regards to their hobby. And I am SO happy that so many people do make content that I can enjoy and that books can be talked about and even that this monetization allows some people to be able to dedicate more time to this hobby because then I get more stuff to watch and recommendations! We all win.

@@WellTraveledBooks Exactly! And what does it concern me if someone else makes some money? Again, it is not much. I am just happy someone gets money out of something they enjoy 🤷🏼‍♀️
