#TheOffice is one of the greatest shows of the 2000s! I’m reviewing every episode with some background, trivia, the deeper meaning, and more. Today, we're looking at the #Money episode.
"I declare #bankruptcy!" Is there a more iconic line from Season 4? Yeah, there probably is, but it's a great one. With the writers never really knowing whether to write Michael as an idiot or not, we get another episode full of gut punches to Michael Scott.
I hope you enjoy my review of an excellent episode of the Office! Don't forget to contribute to the Michael Scott Checkbook in the comments.
Thanks to our NBC overlords for their creation and ownership of the Office. The clips used here are for reviewing and education.

One of my all-time favorite episodes: The stay at Schrute Farms, my favorite Mose moment ever: running beside the car when Jim & Pam drive in (even funnier with Pam's reaction), Creed essentially identity-theft-ing himself, "I... DECLARE... BANKRUPTSAYY!!!", the entire scene in the stairwell with Dwight and Jim - including the Jim & Pam moment immediately after, and the train scene with Michael and Jan. They actually, briefly, seemed like they weren't in a poisonous relationship after all. Nice, even given their needed break-up later. He has to be with his soulmate Holly in the end.

I really like the character of Mr. Figaro, Michael's boss at his night job. He manages to be both serious and apathetic at the same time. He wants the workers to do the job by the book, and calls them out when they don't, but he never actually loses his temper at them because he knows that it's not worth the energy. In some ways he is a mirror image of Michael Scott. Where Michael considers his low-level management job to be the center of his life, Mr. Figaro has zero emotional investment in his.

not a fan of jan later on after mid way in season 4 but not going to lie..compared to holly from a viewer stand point i liked jan and mike's chemistry and build up and different personalities as a couple more low key then him and holly...I get holly was made for him and jan used him and was crazy and as a dwight fan i am glad she self destructed and left the show and did not get a happy ending with mike with how she treats dwight throughout and thats how the story went and i am ok with mike being happy but it does not mean as a fan its kinda annoying that they invest so much into mike and jan in season 3 and 4 only to drop it due to this character they only had minimal access too as an actress so she was not in the show much...shes nice but meh as a show its less interesting to have her and mike be together imo...jan an mike were more entertaining interesting an toxic in a way that i liked and wanted to see them overcome...maybe make jan less crazy so its more realistic for them to end up together..i get they made her insane enough to fall for mike so it always was going to end badly for them and she did not love him at first but thats what makes them ending up together feel special if they did in the end..character development...with holly she loves mike and was forced to leave...thats not engaging thats just boring and not tragic and its handled so poorly ..once she went with a.j. i was like good leave the show...

Running away from or trying to escape your problems instead of taking them head on is a common theme in this show. I just realized that him printing out the pictures is his version of PowerPoint. And when your words don't match your actions, you get Jim & Pam in Season 9.

I'm surprised you didn't speculate on whether the idea for Jan's lawsuit originated here. 4 episodes later we are doing depositions. Maybe once she realized Michael couldn't possibly keep her in the life to which she was accustomed she hatched this lawsuit plan. Or maybe she started right after being fired, but you would think if that was the case then she would have referenced getting the lawsuit money making everything ok.

Angela's "no vegetables, no seafood, etc." restrictions remind me of her later demands that she must be married in a 1000-year-old Christian Church in the continental United States. (For the teen-agers that show up on KZfaq videos unable to answer the most basic questions: that's about 500 years before Christianity arrived in America.) In other words, when she wants to dodge something but seem amicable, she just throws in an impossible-to-meet requirement.

HA! Not Greensleeves, but that was what he played in Take Your Daughter to Work day (I think). Subs are increasing, 👏; thanks for the kind words! As for Dwight...I think Dwight fits whatever the writers need for him that episode. In S1 he's randomly wearing an Anime shirt. In S2 they explore his Amish roots. In S3 he's driving a classic-ish car (I guess...a car person could fill that in for me) and rocking out before the sales car. What they ended with is this smorgasbord of traits that end up making Dwight really complex and weird. Also there's the Christmas episode where him, Nate and Creed rock out to the hard rock Christmas song.

I mean who wouldn't act smug towards a character like Dwight? Don't get me wrong, I love Dwight, but they just try to annoy him when he becomes insufferable. Their pranks are a way of getting back at him. There are numerous moments when Jim and Pam have treated Dwight as a true friend would. Just because they are the closest representation of 'real' humans they get judged in the harshest manner.
