My learning from this episode #1: 1. Choosing a stock based on its price is a very big mistake 2. It is preferable not to go beyond 15 stocks because you won't have enough time to track the portfolio 3. People who contribute to initial capital are called promoters 4. The percentage of their contribution with respect to total contribution is their shareholding. 5. Understand face value, total shares, additional capital 6. The extra amount required for the company expansion can either be collected from banks(debt) or by selling the shares to new investors at higher price than initial face value. This higher price is called market value. 7. Understand SEBI controls and puts regulations on all these companies. 8. The process of collecting money directly from the public is called Initial Public Offer(IPO) 9. Demat account is required to purchase IPO stocks from the stock exchanges. 10. Depositories hold the shares you own and not the trading companies. 11. Trading companies have your trading account and depositories have the demat account. Your shares are safe. 12. Two depositories : CDSL and NSDL 13. Index : Sensex for BSE and Nifty for NSE 14. Sensex - Top performing 30 stocks, Nifty - Top performing 50 stocks

Sai garu, First of all, thank you so much for sharing the financial knowledge. I have been following your videos (I still need to cover so many). For some reason, this knowledge is never taught either at home or in education (except in some courses!!). I am following your stock market basics series and comparing that with US stock exchanges, most of the concepts & key points are similar, like indices (NYSE composite, S&P 500, Dow Jones, etc) and weight associated with companies, etc. I have started investing in equities very recently, but relying mostly on reviewing earnings reports, suggestions by trading companies, etc. But understanding the grand scheme really gives me insight. BTW, I live in USA, so comparing your topics with the local information here.
