This was the only review of the movie I could find not from the perspective of a white man… I appreciate hearing someone not just taking it as a badass superhero movie but as a political and cultural commentary as it was intended to be. Great vid!

Pop culture happy hour does a review it was a white man and two women of color both Indian I believe but I might be wrong. They basically said similar things he said it is worth a listen though. 😊

You know it's a good movie when all anyone can criticize about this movie is the shaky cam

i'd seen the movie a few nights ago, been really impressed, saw your interview with dev and then watched this, and all the comments and insights in those videos about it only led to me appreciating and being impressed even more when i rewatched the movie tonight. it has such a balance in any element you can think of, audio, visuals, substance, style, story, themes....it's absolutely incredible. it has things to say, knows what those things are, and says them. it uses conventions, influences, and precedents to fresh and striking effect in a way you get when these are used knowing and appreciating how and why they work so well, and thus being able to also make them your own and use them for what you want to do. this is stunning for a debut as a director, it'd be stunning anyways even if this was a director's dozenth film, it's even more stunning knowing how much of an uphill battle it was making this movie and then in getting it to a theatrical release despite how amazing it is. one thing that storywise felt like it says a lot about how strong this movie's core is is the element of alphonso included in the story. he's introduced lightly antagonistically and is this character who you could easily see being treated as both beneath a protagonist and in their way, to be eventually "defeated" in some way down the line. but despite alphonso having no "cool" factor, not being tough, brave, strong, not bringing wisdom or inspiration or anything of the sort to make him more "useful" than on a practical basis, the movie understands that this doesn't matter like it matters that alphonso is also someone being stepped on and used and who in turn understands himself as among those "beneath" the higher ups. and our protagonist isn't someone who does, needs to, or should see himself as "above" alphonso. the film's core is so strong in the hero not being "above" anyone, but among them, and he needs these other people who recognize him in turn and look out for him in each of their own ways. the literal center of this movie around the action movie [training montage, Take Two] type of scene being what it is, not being about overcoming a "weakness" but about finding deeper understanding, balance, connection, insight, and growth, and being so strong and clear about how the central character here is connected and needs these connections, rather than carving him out as needing to be different and "better" than anyone to prove worthiness. the movie having him be so driven about fighting against those who position themselves above others, and all throughout the film we're shown that he holds such a stance against this in essence and not just on the surface, he's part of everything along with everyone else, he's connected to them, he's always fighting those who would position themselves to be gods. well already the comment is so long but there's seriously so much that can be said above a whole movie, with so many people's time and effort and talent put into it, and this movie being so completely stellar and special. again, watching this video and your other video with dev is also just fantastic insights and info and an excellent effort put forth for the sake of this movie and the appreciation and attention it warrants. all the thought and energy you have here is just great, it's only gotta be a matter of time before like 1k views per video is a typical baseline for your channel.

Nice analysis. Dev is talented and down to earth man. I don't know about Wick movies...they use gun moistly. I think he was inspired by Indian movies. They are big on story, revenge and fights.

I really hope bhakts don't bring heat to this movie. It feels like a movie that criticizes injustice but at same time apprecites culture, something bhakts don't understand

It will impact similarly as Slum dog Millionaire. It will just give negative perception of India to the world.

I mean its damn good movie but yeah it will support kind of exaggerated negative image of india , just normal things imposed such as caste , poverty , dirtyness , slums

More like, i don't want it to be every Bollywood movie from 80s-90s with "bad Hindu politician vs low class honest brave man" story, with misinformed woke friendly ideas and oversimplified mythology that white friendly audience cd easily digest and ain't too spicy fr them and at the same time exotic enough for them to be called culturally informed. Gtfo😂

@@MyNameIsSatoruGojoit’s not a negative perception if it’s true. Just cause it’s depressing doesn’t mean the story shouldn’t be told

Oh yea I just saw it and let me say this the crow is the main plot and storyline and what the whole movie is then they wrote John wick into the movie and had the Indian continental literally and they had the raid moments a fast and furious moment it was all over the place and I was all In 10/10 easily can be the best movie ever made
