This movie is as beautiful as it is brutal. As quiet as it is loud. The way the music and sounds were used to compliment every scene of the movie was perfection. Amazing experience. Bravo, Dev Patel! Bravo!

@Tyler_W3 ай бұрын
This was surprisingly good. I appreciate how it had really good action without neglecting emotional and thematic depth. I appreciate how intelligently the action was portrayed. I'm usually adamantly against shaky cam outside of the Bourne movies because nothing else seems to do it well and only do it to cover up bad choreography and make the action unintelligible, but it was used very purposefully here. When the main character was losing and disoriented, the way the action was framed reflected that. When he was being a boss kicking ass, the action shots were a lot more fluid and elegant to watch. The mixing of action styles in the way sction was filmed did a wonderful job of getting you into the experience of the main character, all done through visual storytelling. Give me more of these mid budget genre films. Some movies work when they try to be all things to all people, privided the story allows for it, but I think a lot movies would do a lot better if they simply understood and respected their core audience, lean into their niche that make them distinct, and focused on delivering a solid experience the core audience would enjoy. We'd get more diverse, creative, and interesting movies instead of all of the generic, bland, and fake diverse movies we've been getting these last many years.

I agree I liked a good amount I had a couple flaws but this was better than most action movies I really like R rated action. If he keeps directing I think he could be a really solid action director.
@geekinwithJamesHancock3 ай бұрын
Totally. I want to see Dev team up with some other established action stars for a colossal R-rated extravaganza.
@ankitamaheshwari76863 ай бұрын
Just a quick correction, Netflix actually dropped the film. It was so close to never being released at all, and then Jordan Peele got his hands on it and literally revived it from the dead, but even better, because now its it theaters. :DD

Good movie, but too long. Some sequences really overstay their welcome and/or overstate their point, if there was one. Good, but not great imo. The acting is pretty terrific across the board. But they gave that absolute beauty of a woman virtually nothing to do. It almost seems like her scenes were cut down or something. If she wasn't so drop dead gorgeous I don't think her character would have even registered.

I'll bet it's better than the last 50 Jason Statham wooden-acted action movies. Jason can act, but unfortunately chooses B-movie status action flicks.

100% agree with you James, the bigger the budget the less control a director probably has over the movie. Too many corporate types lurking around the set trying to protect the money. Big budget movies have just become a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream. Who wants that?
@geekinwithJamesHancock3 ай бұрын
They are a few exceptions like Nolan and Villeneuve, but it's tough to think of more than a handful of directors who can deliver great movies at that scale. It blows my mind that Patel pulled this off with only $10 million.

I heard there was lots of shakey cam, I am not that guy that HATES shakey cam but I am somewhat of a fighter myself so I don’t like shakey cam or closeup fighting BUT I LOVE it when a director likes S H O W I N G fight scenes but imo if you weren’t inspired to mention it then it can’t be TOO distracting.

I am from India and I must clear the misconceptions about caste system in India. Yes there is in rural areas but we have come a long way towards equality through policies and society in general moving on. Also caste system does not only belong to Hindu community, you can be a Muslim, Christian or Sikh and still have the same caste system. But this movie says caste system is everywhere in India is like saying every white American is Racist today . That's obviously not true, the last embers of racism or castism left shouldn't be inflamed in my opinion. Majority of us are good people striving for equality and a better life. And not having one single representation of them in this movie is malicious or plain ignorant.
