This is a film made by my father, John Carew-Jones, who was a solicitor in Monmouth from 1959 to 1981.

My wife writes: I remember your family so well, you lived on the top floor of my parents house in the 1960s. I recognised so many people, Keith Kissack, Wilson Plant, Mr Bowen the grocer and my Dad Charles G at the show. Absolutely fascinating, I loved it all.

Yes I have happy memories living on the top floor of Newton Court. In addition to the people you mention, I recognised Ron Wilcox (Menswear shop), Harry Harries (Dentist), Eric Manns (garage proprietor), John Chambers of Hereford Rd and Mr. Hardulak (violin teacher). I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

Thankyou so much for sharing this, I lived on the Wyastone Estate 1961 - 64 ish and the last footage of the race took me back to the old road going upto Ganarew and to Whitchurch where I went to school - what memories .

Although I have never lived in Monmouth, as a child in the 60s I remember stopping off on the way back to Ledbury from some trip to some Welsh destination on several occasions. I have enjoyed watching this wonderful footagen and recognise many places. So good of you to post this. .

Great footage.I was hoping for a glimpse of the railway a year after closure. Imagine what a steam heritage line between Monmouth, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow Castle, would have done for the towns prosperity.

I remember Mr and Mrs CJ acting in The Cherry Orchard c.1976, as Feers and Dunyasha IIRC. Closing scene in the abandoned house burnt into my mind forever. Also *waves* to Daniel if he passes by.

I only recently became aware of this film's existence. Particularly relevant for me, as I worked for the film's maker, John Carew-Jones, from November 1960. Have seen many people in this footage that I recognise - Ron Hook and Tom Williams, who also both worked for JCJ, (as we knew him). Keith Kissack who taught me at Priory Street, Canon Knight, Steve Clark, Geoffrey Webb and many others. And I took David CJ to the rugby match in Cardiff at which Keith Jarrett (ex-Monmouth School) won his first cap and scored 19 points!

Geoffrey Webb of the immaculate copperplate handwriting? I'd be interested to see that. Can you supply a time?

@@brucefleming208 I don't expect this is what you were asking, but Geoffrey Webb can be seen in the film, at 32.11, face partly obscured by lady in headscarf and with Steve Clark to his right. I expect you know that both Mr and Mrs CJ were professional actors before coming to Monmouth?

@@anthonymorgan1281 Yes it was, thanks. Had to slow it right down but clocked him in the end. The quiff is unmistakable. Thanks for your trouble.

Hello, This is a brilliant bit of film. Is there any way to list who is on here minute by minute? That would add so much to the future history of the film. Is there any way to get someone to create this detail so a timeline could be made to go with the film?

very interesting, especially the old road from Monmouth to Ross. Who is the glamorous young lady at 0:40? (on the Kymin?)
