I will never forget that evening in December 2013 when it appeared as a suggestion. I was drawn by the title - I love all things winter. This was my first and most beautiful encounter with post-rock. I remember thinking that it would be so great to have someone to share this kind of music with as I knew my friends would not like it. November 2014 I went to Mono's concert and met my current boyfriend. We will be celebrating our second anniversary at another Mono concert this November. I can't escape thinking that on that December night when I first heard this song I actually had him on my mind as a person to share with.... UPDATE: We aren't together anymore. That's life. I keep my story here as I do think it was special. Thank you all for your beautiful comments. Wish you all the best, fellow postrockers!

This was one of the first post-rock songs I ever listened to and it was at a time when I had lost the first love of my life. Ever since then, I learned to find pleasure in sadness and understood the beauty of melancholy. Truly wonderful, an emotional high no drug can give you. And years later I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to this live and met the wonderful people who pour their emotions into what they do and to the audience.

As a victim of abuse as a kid, I felt so connected with this song. Looking back, I can compare my innocence as pure as snow tainted with abuse. The ending feels so cathartic as rage and sadness inside me slowly brews and finally screams all of it at the same time. I feel I’m finally heard.

This song is so dear to me. I was going through a lot in 2016 and this song is part of what got me through it. The most beautiful experience I had with it was standing in the middle of a hayfield while I was on a solo walk and listening to this song while the snow fell around me. It hadn’t yet stuck to the ground and the sun was shining brightly through the clouds, casting its rays down and glimmering off the snowflakes. Never felt so connected to life and to this earth than in that moment 😌

You came through rain Wet, shivering Strength you feign I embraced you, From where have you fled? Come rest next to the warm fire Our shed The months pass, trees shake off golden dust You grew just like the sun Peeking over the horizon, to it we run Playing in that forest our silent home Away from the worries of a city In solitude, not alone Words said never Rain fell, my cheeks wetter Yet you, oh so gentle Cheered me, my heart settle Soon our paths diverge, time grows low To separate worlds we must go Separate we are, though not alone We set out to claim our thrones Lament not we will meet again If not here, then in our Ascent For this is only a temporary parting Our bond is much more than our holding Just as this White rain, the world, covers Entirely so do our thoughts Envelop the other

This picture is so touching. It makes me think how innocent can a bear become just by the touch of a child's hand , and how aggressive it can become by the touch of a grown up man. And this music and the tittle tells everything.
@asdfghjkl181077 жыл бұрын
once there was a child that wandered into the depths of a great forest. the child kept walking until it came upon a stream where it met a bear. the bear slowly approached the child as the child cocked its head in curiosity. the child asked the bear " where am I?". the bear stared quizzically at the child and said "why do you not fear me? have you not been taught that i am dangerous?" the child silently stepped forward face to face with the bear and said "why should i be scared of you?" the bear responded with a hallow laugh and said "because i have claws and teeth that can carve rivers in your skin and open you up to the sky." the child stared thoughtfully at the massiveness that was the bear and wondered "just because you have the means of soaking my body into the earth does not mean you will. humans have the same opportunity to do as such but we slaughter only when money or value are involved. my dear bear you and i are the same." the bear shook its head in disbelief "if i were hungry i would make you into pantry young one in mere seconds." the child sighed "but if that were true i would already be gone from this plane. we -my bear- are the same for both of us live and breath and survive on this planet." the child took the last step forward and reached its hands out to the bear bowing both their heads to touch they stared. the child spoke "you are me and i am you my friend for we are one in the same because we are made the same by energy and this earth." after what seamed like forever in the child's mind it stepped back and asked "were do ones like us go?" the bear sighed a heavy sigh and said "i can not tell you that for i do not know the answer." the child let out its breath and stretching out like a tree towards the sky said "then should we find one?" the bear came beside the child and said "where do you think we should start?" the child place a hand on the bears side and said "wherever we should start we should start now." and then they left the safety of the quiet stream and struck into the darkness of the night with the halo of the moon to light their next destination.

Under the cold weight of snow, the earth will finally hibernate. It is the miracle of winter. Flakes fall as if they were sent to pause time before the seasons begin again. Some are clumsy, some are graceful, but each knows its landing place on the earth. The only movement here is that of a young woman searching through the braided pine branches for an opening. Her white dress is camouflaged against the snow. Lost in this dream chamber, she moves through the white powder, running her hands through it to awaken her memory. Parting the branches, she follows an open path cleared before her, swerving its way to a stone bridge adorned with icicles. Someone is waiting for her there, a gray figure, a stranger, watching her through the shower of white between them. They are uncertain of why they have come but they both long to be here. Although she cannot recognize his face, she knows him somehow. As they stand together, a single ray of light grows from behind, wrapping them in its warmth until they dissipate into it. When she awakes, a cloud of winter air still floats above her. It was just a dream again. On this morning, a man awakes from the same dream, one that reoccurred so often that he felt incomplete without it at times. It haunted him. When his eyes closed, her face still appeared before him, but not one that he could recognize. His oldest memory was of being an infant sitting before his family, unable to speak or walk on his own. He cried for days and nights, his small fists clenched, until one day he couldn’t remember why he was so sad anymore. Along with the other children, he learned to laugh and run again. This became his new life, and everything before then seemed no longer his. The man watches swelling clouds from his window and cannot help but anticipate the arrival of something today. Bodies bustle their way past him as he sits outdoors, but they are like shadows murmuring to one another. They float by unnoticed as his eyes only fall upon a young woman, dressed in white, who stands behind the crowd. He feels comforted, almost relieved by the sight of her, and longs to be near her. Their eyes lock, a strange longing glance that could not be severed by anything at that moment. Her eyes are like two deep wells of stories, perhaps one he may have heard before. They appear dewy, prepared to overflow. In the distance, church bells ring. The humming noise and motion of the world seep back in to disturb their peace. If she is a mirage, she will disappear soon, he thinks. But she remains there, motionless. This time is not a dream. With a final glance at him, the woman slowly vanishes into the sea of bodies. A steady downpour of snow ripples in the wind until he cannot see anything but the movement of white. Chaotic, like a surge of emotion, and yet pure, white, and delicate, the snowstorm remains an enigma to him. As he tastes the snowfall, he sees a single ray of light piercing through a cloud, and he cannot help but smile.

-Do you know what pure love is ?- she asked him,looking him straight in the eyes. -Love as pure as the snow,innocent as a child who does not know the cruelty of this world,sad as the sound of a violin crying on a beautiful moonlit sky,bitter as coffee,but sweet as honey-she continued while tears were running down her pale skin. -A love that will bring smile and tears on your face,anxiety and peace in your heart,confusion and clarity in your mind,emptiness and glow in your eyes.Have you ever experienced such strong feeling,such sweet pain ? Well this is the kind of feeling a got from this song and inspired me to write this ^_^

THE epitome of Post Rock music has to be this song. So many great groups in this genre that you will never hear on mainstream radio. That fact makes this genre even better than it already is

A couple of days ago, I had lost my cat. My brain still hasn't processed it yet and it hurts. I'm so used to seeing her at the door playing, hearing her run around, the sound of the bell on her collar jingling from time to time, I just miss her in general. We had raised her since she was small since her mother had neglected her and her brother. Sadly, her brother passed away, our only source of happiness being her. Without her, I feel empty. I feel as if I need to cry, or even scream in an empty space. I just want her back. I hope she's safe wherever she is, even if she's at a new home.

David Bowie brought me here... I started listening to him an hour ago, and one click after another, through Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Snow Ghosts, Frames and others, I ended up right here. funny how things go, especially when suffering with another bout of depression, feeling dejected and the like... that such power comes to you randomly at 1:17am beauty in sound.

The first time I saw them live was on a trip to another city(almost 800km away from my hometown), on that trip I spent my savings on tickets, plane, hotel and food. After the trip I lost my job because of the getaway. But let me tell you it was the most amazing experience I have lived, to hear them live I remember how my tears almost came out when I first heard this song, to have them 8 feet apart and see how they gave their soul into every song was what best thing I've ever seen in my whole life. (sorry for my bad english)

This is unbelieveable, idk how I found this but I cant really get out of its impressiveness, when I listen to this song I can think and feel everything deeply, it makes me feel that everthing is vain in this life except one thing that is true love, pure love that touches to your soul not to your physical existence. Thanks youtube for giving me the chance to listen this great masterpiece. 👏

This song are the key to a transition to a different dimension. It reminds you of the first sun after the snow in March. And that's where it all started for me! 🖤🖤 Now I'm going to tell you the story of this song; Under the cold weight of snow, the earth will finally hibernate. He cried for days and nights, his small fists clenched, until one day he couldn't remember why he was so sad anymore. As he tastes the snowfall, he sees a single ray of light piercing through a cloud, and he cannot help but smile..

Wow, like almost 8 years later I came to discover this wonderfull group. I love this kind of music, postrock, it doesn't need words to make me enter in a totally relaxed, reflexive and existential mood. This music reminds me the insignificant carrer of humankind in the vastness of universe and time. Reminds me why we shouldn't feel angry or worry. Maybe we are less than nothing, but after all, it makes me feel hopeful and quiet, I don't know why

And people say post-rock is stale. This proves that the scene can create one of the greatest instrumental shoegaze/post-rock songs ever made. It gets more somber and heavier-sounding with every minute until 7:20 hits, and it reaches its most melancholic and asphyxiating tonal moment. It's truly an emotional masterpiece for start to finish. This is on par with GY!BE's best work.
