Sorry for the alarm background noise, a nearby building has had this flood warning alarm on for the last 3 days due to torrential rains we have at the moment.

Hi there. Really thank to you for your vids. So i don't know if it is possible to do a tutorial vid regarding how to train the eq6-r backlash ( periodic error) Thanks in advance.

Quick question, does this apply to planetary photography as well?
@TheMacastronomer
@TheMacastronomer 2 ай бұрын
@@spc7163It does. In fact, planets are such a small size on the chip (requiring lots of magnification to get it on enough pixels), that the extra resolution from a monochrome camera really adds a lot of detail. But, the negative is it is just more complex and with the added problem of planet motion. Jupiter and its moons move rather quickly meaning you need to get all of the channels captured before the channels no longer line up. Keep the hobby fun. If you’re the kind of person who meticulously stains over every small detail and you’re not happy unless it’s perfect… mono. If you want to have fun imaging and losing a whole imaging session ruins your good time because a channel gets lost for one reason or another… color. Go check out Astromart or cloudy nights and see all the color and mono cameras for sale because people chose the wrong one. It’s an important and expensive choice.

Despite the beauty and the advances of monochrome, this video absolutely makes me decide that I won't go there. So you saved me a lot of trouble. Very well explained, nicely made video, really appreciate it, thanks!

I’m still trying to decide. I wish I could afford it all. I’d like to go mono, but the ease of color is alluring. Decisions, decisions…

I have been imaging with a monochrome camera for three years. I just purchased a OSC cooled camera. I was tired of dealing with gradients in all LRGB images. The new crop of OSC is certainly closing the gap with monochrome for broadband. But monochrome is still the way to go for narrowband images.

Being new this is amazing as I'm looking to break into astro photography. Monochrome makes sense and would love to understand more about this and filters, gear, auto focuses.

This was great, Rohan! Thank you so much for all the information (and for all the other great videos you've made since). I've been imaging with a OSC for about a year, but I felt like I was ready to try and get my images to the next level. I took the monochrome plunge a few days ago and I'm waiting for everything to arrive. Very excited!

Mate, great work. Just getting into Astrophotography myself (just purchased the Redcat 51 and SW A 2i Pro), and once I get more cash - looking to get a camera. I'll probably be exception and say - i'd rather go straight into mono. Sure, lots of leg work but I'm sure it will be done. Joined up as well and look forward to getting to look at your other videos too. Cheers budd. Dann

I know this is not a new video but it has been very helpful to me since I’m considering taking the color to mono step. Can you suggest a good video on processing in PI for mono narrowband data?. Also if you have any updates on this current video, please share. Thank you. p.s. I also appreciate the clarity in your presentation.

If you plan on 6 hrs of total exposure is it best to do 3 cycle. 40 min R, 40 min G and 40 min b and then repeat that 3 times? I'm concerned about the target moving though different depths of atmosphere during the 6 hrs. Thanks

@@AstroWithRoRo I'd watch that! I want to try some Methane imaging with it later in the year. Another idea might be an in-depth review of coma corrector design - it's something I always find confusing. Tele Vue uses 5 lenses, Explore Scientific uses 4, I think GSO uses 2 etc. How to compare? Although from memory you typically use refractors over reflectors :P

Thanks very much for the sub Darrin, I really appreciate it. I have the scripts written for these, just need to finish filming and edit them. I hope we get a string of clear weather soon so I can get the data in to bring it all together and get the filming done. With a bit of luck they will be out in the next month.

Just started to watch this… I have watched several of your videos; and thanks for sharing your knowledge. BUT, it does bug me when people say “Our eyes are most sensitive in the green because we evolved to see danger in grasses.” Our eyes are most sensitive at the 555, and with basic understanding of color one would say that’s green. But there is more than just 3 colors and 555 is literally yellow. The star our planet orbits is also a yellow star. Wouldn’t it make more sense that we are more sensitive to yellow because that is the main color of the light that hits our planet? And evolving that way makes as much sense, and then again it would also be that way if an intelligent creator made it (and us) that way. Just another point of view.
@TheMacastronomer
@TheMacastronomer 2 ай бұрын
PS… don’t jump on me if the Sun isn’t ‘yellow,’ it’s the perception of the Sun… as is our perception of the wavelength of 555.

Hi I understand, that mono AP is much more involved, however I am tempted to take it on. My biggest problem is mine is/will be a portable set up. My question is what problems would I come up against if I take LGRB images over widely seperated sesssions dates. Surely the orientation of camera will cause problems with stacking a new filter say G with LRB from sessions from many weeks/months before. We get so much cloud here in UK you could get one session in a month.Would be handy though if I can stack over different times to slowly evolve the final full combined data better. I'm not in a rush for a magic result.

Hi! excellent video thank you very much. I have already subscribed to your channel. I have a question, I would appreciate your answer, please. My skies are Bortle 7. It is somewhat difficult for me to travel looking for better skies. I understood that in polluted skies the Ha filter can be used without problem. My question is, for RGB shots under polluted skies would they be taken without an additional anti-light pollution filter or should one be used by placing it in front of the RGB filters, maybe in front or behind the telescope? If an anti-contamination filter should be used, which one is recommended? I will need one filtro anti laigth poluttion for each one or just a one filter for all of them? Too many questions jejejjee 😁. Thank you. Clear skies!!!

Hello Roro! My camera sensor size is 4/3 but my filter is only 1.25". Is there any impact on image quality?

Would be great to see a video on the filters and processing pictures. I'm also curious whether taking a picture with a monochrome camera with separate LRGB filters would result in a better image quality than the same picture using a regular color camera (holding all other variables constant). Thanks

It has it's place but really depends on your end goal. I LOVE it for nebulae imaging, but if you do more planetary/galaxy, etc then I think the mono advantage is eroded.
