I’m such a sucker for marching bands. I love watching the Parades every year. I don’t really understand it but it’s like you can just feel it in your bones. I just get goosebumps. I’ve seen the drum line but nothing like this. Thank you for sharing. 💜💜

Agreed, I just love them. I was in band most of my life, so I have a certain respect for what they do. Started in Middle School, then did marching in High School...then did some Drum Corps after that. I love watching them. I just love how much they seem to enjoy what they do, it's contagious.

Many of the amazing things about this band have been said -- the girl with the prosthetic leg, their schedule that gives them only three vacation days a year, that practices and choreography is organized by the students. They also have a wonderful sense of humor (some performances include a mascot "Tachibanasaurus" costume while playing "Jurassic Park") and are very kind (their website, in Japanese, encourages middle school students to join them "even if they're a little bad" and that, "they'll love band more"). I think they're also one of the few marching bands that inspired an anime. Agreed: on performances in my opinion their Tokyo 2018 is a ludicrously good performance -- full of solos and sectional performances that really showcase their musical talents. This Disney performance was also hampered by them performing along a long narrow street, so in this particular setup being close to the sousaphones meant you heard those well, while the trumpets were further away.

One year not sure if it's this group or not. But one girl in the band had a prosthetic leg. She played and danced just like everyone else.

Yes she's in the flute section. At the Pasadena Bandfest a few days later they pulled her out to highlight her in front of the crowd...not sure if she liked that...but Hitomi is now a member of the Kyoto Fire Band (their public services each have their own bands)

These boys and girls decide on all of their music they make up all their dance steps. They decide on how everything is done. The band director helps with playing the music and the band coach only advices. He has no real say so on what they do. These kids practice approx. 40hrs a week, 360 days a year. The guy in black is only their because he is part of the green band assoc. He can't march and he can't evan dance. He shows off to much and his uniform does not match up with the kids, he's an eye sore.

That "eye sore" is Hirofumi Yokoyama and he was The direct marching coach for Tachibana, not just part of the Green Band association. And the kids DID have to run stuff by him. And in the Rose Parade, he called every tune they played. He signaled the lady coaches which song they would do next and the ladies would walk in front of the drummers signaling which song was next by giving the number of the tune with their fingers. You can see them doing this in many of the parade videos. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Yokoyama was in charge. He decided they would do the Mario Bros turn and even threw an extra turn later in the parade, surprising the band a bit. There are videos were he is reaming the band out at practices because he knows they are slacking off and videos where he decides the placement of sections of the band, notably the percussion section in a 2012 video. He was so respected by the members that after he retired MIta hired him to advise the O-Vils. A very popular group made up of graduated Tachibana members. Yes the band members pick the songs and the dance routines, but when they are marching in parades like this Yokoyama is much more than just an eye sore

@@sonnymaupin9267 He is still an eye sore in that stupid show off outfit, thankfully he didn't have that stupid feather in his hat. He didn't even match the kids. He can't march let alone dance. He should have been on the sideline calling the shots. He was running around in and out of the kids pushing them and to damned worried about them pulling up their socks while trying to play. He is always trying to draw the attention away from the kids to himself. Thank goodness the showoff band coach is gone, now they have someone that will work with them and give them the credit. As far as the Ovils, thats their problem. He will use them for his own good not theirs.

@@puma1479 Still. All you are doing is expressing an opinion. If you read enough of the comments you will find people who actually liked the uniform and his presence. And why on earth would you even think he should be able to sing or dance? My first response was responding to your claim that he was just part of the green band association implying he had nothing to do with the band itself when he was an integral part of the band for years. In fact when one of the boys in the band saw a video of a modern dance company dancing to Sing Sing Sing he went to Yokoyama, not the rest of the band, and showed him the video and asked if the band could do it. Yokoyama said yes and showed it to the rest of the band, giving his enthusiastic approval and their theme song was born. He also was the guy who lined up the 5 drum majors (past and present) the way they were in the front of the band. The girls figured Ron would lead as drum major and the others would just march in the band playing their instruments. As far as O-Vils. There's over a dozen young women (No longer kids) in that group who spent almost every day for a full 3 years of their lives with Yokoyama and they are glad to have him with them now. So when it comes to opinions we can either take their opinion of the man or the opinion of some dude commenting on KZfaq. Heh to me, thats a no brainer ;)
